A MUST Listen

I was six years old when Kristin Smart was murdered. I remember seeing her photo on the covers of magazines and newspapers at grocery store checkouts and weeks of updates about her on the news my parents watched every night. And like many of us, she faded from memory as life moved on. Thirty years later, now as an adult who enjoys true crime pod casts, I stumble upon ‘Your Own Backyard’ and my childhood memories of this case come rushing back. Through the incredibly documentary and story telling of Chris Lambert, I get a chance to hear the entirety of Kristin’s story and the monumental work her family, friends, community, law enforcement and Christ have done to get justice for her. This podcast is an absolute gem and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Do not skip a single episode! This is your chance to experience the pursuit of justice for an incredible human who was stolen from us by a sexual predator. If it can happen to Kristin, it can happen to any of us.
Really well done!

A Benchmark for all True-Crime Content

Very victim-focused and respectful of the family. The care and dedication put into this is phenomenal, and the level of engagement with and consideration for the Smart family is what all true crime should aspire to achieve. Initially thought his voice sounded little too placid, but by episode two I found it perfect for how measured and meticulous he is in telling Kristin’s story and the aftermath. He treats this story like the tragedy it is, rather than a sensational mystery. We need more true crime content like this.

Justice for Kristen

Chris, I can’t put into words how amazing this podcast is. Instead of merely capitalizing and exploiting on a family’s tragedy like many true crime content creators, you handle this case in such an impartial, investigative, sensitive matter that you literally played a critical role in actually solving this case that should have been solved 26 years ago. I think it’s really telling to see the Smart family’s reaction to you and your work— you did justice by giving their loved one a voice. Unbelievably amazing. As a female Cal Poly alum, this case is close to my heart and I am so grateful for your part in getting an actual monster predator off the streets. May he rot in jail for the rest of his rotten days and continue to be stabbed at any opportunity. Someone like that walking free for 26 years is honestly terrifying and so telling of our legal system, especially when related to sex crimes. I’m so grateful for your work. Thank you.
