A Must-Have Tool for Homeowners
Achieve Professional Results
As a homeowner, there are many house-related maintenance costs on your mind and most of them are on the expensive side. If you want to keep your budget in check while ensuring your dryer is in good working condition, Deflecto's Dryer Vent Cleaning Kit is the best solution. It can help reduce drying time, improve dryer performance and reduce the risk of fire caused by lint that builds up over time in the closed dryer transition duct and vent hood.
Don't wait until it's too late!
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) estimates that 15,500 fires associated with clothes dryers occur in the US annually.
Dryer Safety Tips
Clean The Lint Filter Before Or After Every Load
A dirty lint trap reduces air flow and leads to blockages in the dryer duct. It is like cholesterol in your dryer.
Never Leave Your Dryer Unattended
You should never leave the house or go to bed with the dryer on. In the event something does happen, you will not be able to react.
Keep Your Dryer Area Clear Of Clutter
Do not store clothes or other flammable items on or around the dryer that may aid the spread of a fire if one does occur.

Over A Half Century Of Innovation And Progress

- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2017I had to buy three kits to make it entirely through my very long dryer vent, but I think it was worth the cost to save the life of my dryer! I couldn't believe all the lint in my vent! Using this with your drill really gives the vent a good scrub too (read the instructions about which way to turn the rod with your drill)! I had to run it all one direction (from the house to the outside all one way instead of pulling it back into the house) because it did tend to want to hang up on some screws and things sticking up through the vent where connections were made. (I should say that my vent does not go out up to my roof, but runs horizontal out from the crawl space to the outside via the house foundation.) But it was a doable job—and resourceful women out there can do this like I did! It absolutely saved my dryer and quite possibly could have headed off a fire. My dryer used to get fiery hot on the top and sides and now it's completely cool to the touch all through the dry cycle. The dry time is much reduced and that saves me money. Also, I notice a marked increase in airflow from the outside vent. I think I'll need to keep up the cleaning every six months to keep it cleared out. I'm very good about cleaning lint from the screen after every load, but it's amazing how much lint builds up even so in the vent pipe! The kit is easy to assemble and disassemble. As stated, make sure you set your drill to go the direction as the packaging says or you'll get your sections/brush unscrewed in the vent! When ordering, measure your vent length as much as you can. I miscalculated the first time and had to order another kit, which wasn't ideal as it took two sessions. Should last for some time if someone doesn't get impatient and manhandle it.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2015This is a great product! Did the job very easily and no problems.
The good:
- price - at $21, it's totally worth it, even if you only use it once.
- soft bristles so it's pretty much impossible to damage any part of the ductwork.
- rods are very flexible so can bend around corners
- 12' is long enough for most ducts
The bad:
- nothing
Considerations:
- if you need more than 12', you have to buy another 12'. I wish they would sell extensions in 6' kits, or maybe an 18' brush kit option.
- This is not "industrial-grade" so you have to be a little careful when using it. This is NOT a complaint - a heavy-duty version would cost $100 or more, and I'm happy to only pay $21 and get what I need.
- you have to turn it ONLY CLOCKWISE. It's designed for use in a drill while spinning in the standard right-turning, clockwise direction. If you turn it backwards, it will unscrew the rod sections and the brush will be stuck in the duct.
- use a cordless drill with a clutch and set the clutch low. Then if you encounter resistance, you won't risk breaking the rods or brush. It should turn very easily if you're doing it right.
- clean a 2' section of duct at a time. Start with one section of rod hooked to the drill, run it, pull the brush out, and let all the loose lint blow out of the pipe. Then screw on one more section of rod on and repeat until you have reached the end of the duct. As it scrapes lint off the duct walls, it will build up in front of the brush, which is why you have to keep pulling it out and feeding it back in. This is not a design flaw, just the nature of the beast.
- you can work this by hand, but it won't get as clean, and you will need to use more of a in/out motion while turning slowly clockwise.
- I have seen several negative reviews saying things came off stuck in the duct or it wouldn't work by hand. I am pretty convinced that all of these people are clearly not thinking nor reading instructions before use, or have improper expectations of how such a device should perform. An indestructible rod/brush would end up tearing the duct loose, which would be far worse than buying a new $20 brush kit.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2023When we replaced our dryer we decided to replace the old semi rigid vent with a solid vent pipe and bought this brush. We have a large family so I do laundry every day. The dryer will complain with a code if it wants me to clean the duct. I usually notice that the laundry isn't drying as quickly before the dryer complains and we clean the duct, problem solved. It's absolutely amazing what this brush cleans out of the dryer vent! I've told family members about it and asked how often they clean their dryer vent duct. "Never" is the common response. If you've never cleaned your vent duct, you need this product!! We clean ours at least 2-3 times a year now.
I recommend taping the connections before you start using it each time just to make sure the sections don't come apart. The last time we used it the brush head came off in the vent duct. Took a bit of work to get it back out. Other than that, it's perfect!

5.0 out of 5 stars works perfectly!
My laundry is on the second floor of a 110 year old renovated house. The dryer vent runs 10 feet straight up through an uninsulated attic and then the roof. Prior to buying this I would use an electric leaf blower to clean out the vent - and this does work pretty well. But this device does a better job at removing the stuck-on wet lint that tends to accumulate because the dryer heat dissipates over the 10 feet of pipe - or at least I think that is why it happens. Every 6 months or so I run this up the vent pipe and every time I am shocked by the amount of link that comes out. I follow that up with a blast from the leaf blower just because it is so much fun.
One warning - you will need an electric drill to make this work - do not under any circumstances run the drill in reverse as it will separate one or more of the sections inside the vent pipe - not the vent pipe sections, but the plastic rods. I have no idea in a setup like mine with 10 feet of dryer vent in the attic how I would get the sections out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job!
My dryer had not been working well for about a year (dryer was only 3yrs old & would have to run some heavier clothing 3+Cycle times in order to get them dry) was about to buy a new dryer when I came across this product and thought for the price was worth giving it a try- I honestly didn’t think dirty ducts would impact drying times too drastically.
My biggest concern after reading reviews was damaging the ducts while cleaning. I was extra careful and ran each length through by hand first and then only spun with drill pulling out- seems to have worked out well.
Almost filled my shop-vac and the next day even more loose lint blew itself out of vent.
Really happy with decision to clean- dryer works properly now- 1 cycle per load.
Ps- would be nice to be able to be some extra lengths without having to buy another whole kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked great!
Very pleased with this product! I was going to buy a duct cleaner locally, but wasn't sure they were long enough (I could only find 8 and 10ft), and so the price of this one, with the 12 feet of extension sealed the deal. Quality is great, the sections screw together easily and firmly and the brush head is of good quality. I have a few sharp bends in my duct and this snaked it with ease. The instructions on the back of the package are really detailed and helpful as well. If you're going to use this, make sure to hook it up to a drill; I don't think it'd do much if you don't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Say Enough of How Well this Worked
I am completely satisfied with this product. I initially put the brush into the vent turning it by hand and slowly adding rods as I went further. It was effective in cleaning the duct until I couldn't move it any further. I put a camera into the duct to see what was happening, and I saw a complete blockage! I continued to try to work on it by turning the brush by hand as I was afraid of using a drill and breaking the rods. However, after a while of doing this it was not working. So I connected my cordless drill to the end of the rod and started it (clockwise, always clockwise) and I can't believe how effective it was. The brush started breaking up the blockage immediately and large lint clumps started falling out of the duct. Slowly, but surely I was able to make my way further into the duct until the blockage was clear.
We hadn't cleaned the vent in the 10 years we've had the place, and now I truly believe it was a fire waiting to happen considering the blockage that was in the duct. Also, the efficiency of the dryer is way better.
So my takeaways from this product:
1) For a general cleaning of the duct without any blockages, hand turning is sufficient. Go back and forth as the instructions indicate.
2) The rods seem sufficiently strong and flexible. I purchased two sets as my duct runs further than the 12' that one kit comes with. I have a couple of 90 degree turns in the ducting and the rods were able to bend through them well, including going roughly 16' at one point.
3) When using the drill, make sure you can modulate the speed and just go slow and take your time. Always rotate clockwise so as to not to loosen the brush or rods.
4) I've taken one star off of 'value for money' as I think the kit should come with more than 12' of rods. I had to buy another set for what I needed. Not sure if 12' is their recommended maximum length, but I used 8 rods which equates to 16' and went through two 90 degree bends and it worked well. So 5 stars otherwise!

3.0 out of 5 stars I guess it's okay.
You have to be really careful with it as the rods seem to be made out of mozzarella cheese. Don't turn it too fast and add one section at a time. It wouldn't go past the second 90° so I gave the brush a little more speed and gently wiggled it back and forth in hope it would find it's way and what you see in the picture happened and I had to rip it out, now rhe whole thing was too short for the small run it had to do. If your vent is not going strait out consider getting extea rods. I'm not sure this product could be used many times, I could feel them slip where the connection are crimped at the rods. good luck.
Philippe S.I guess it's okay.
