Very concerning

Very concerning
I purchased this on Oct 14, 2020 and used it every sense, and it looks like it heated the back of my tablet causing the battery to be bulged out. It actually push the glass out of the front causing a gap around the glass because of the issue with the back. This may not be this product causing the issue as it might be a defect with the thin plastic on the back not able to withstand two years of use with this product. Figured I would just mention this in case other people came across the same issue. I don’t want to have it where the battery blows up or something cause a fire..

After problems with charging cables breaking, getting lost or just taking up too much space, I purchased the wireless charging dock for my Kindle and it did not disappoint. I received it the next day and packaging was great. Quality is wonderful. Very durable and nice color. I plugged it in and placed Kindle on it and charging began. I can turn it vertical and watch it as it is charging, which works great when working in the kitchen or on a craft. Hands down (sorry about the pun) but I have order more for family and their kindles. Recommend!!!!!

[For the sake of time-saving, I am posting the same review here that I posted for the HD8 Plus tablet because it addresses both products.]

I sure like the wireless charging and not having to fool around with the charging cable anymore! The additional gig and a half of RAM over the old HD8 models that only had a gig and a half to begin with, and/or a gig more than the new two gig regular HD8 and HD10 models, is quite an advance too since, as far as I'm concerned, all tablets and phones should have a minimum of two gigs; thus, so far, this Plus tablet zings! I think the wireless charging dock should be smaller, that is narrower, than it is though. It takes up too much space in a limited space environment like I have. I think it should only be as wide as the HD8 tablet in portrait (vertical) mode. When you're charging the tablet in landscape (horizontal) mode, the dock doesn't need to be as wide as the tablet, and the ends of the tablet could "hang" over the left and rights edges of the dock. And, because I don't use the Show Mode at all, and keep the tablet in vertical (portrait) mode, it sure would be nice to have the charging dock only as wide as the tablet in that mode.

So, I recommend to Amazon and/or the manufacturers of the dock that they make it narrow(er) and only as wide as the HD8 Plus tablet [the wireless charging ONLY works with that model tablet, NOT the regular HD8 tablets---or the HD10 (although it should, and hopefully will with the next incarnation{s} of the HD10 next year?)] in portrait (vertical) mode; since, even in that configuration, the tablet laying in it in horizontal (landscape) mode would work just fine with a narrower dock [though the charging dock for the HD10 would have to be of different design for wireless charging of course, but that charger could be narrower than the HD10 in landscape (horizontal) mode, too].

Additional pros are the increase in storage space of course (I should have bought the 2018 HD8 with 32 gigs of storage instead of only 16 gigs), and the faster quad-core CPU (processor) [I sure wish they'd put the octa-core processor in the HD8 tablets that the HD10 tablet has though (but it doesn't make sense that those tablets with an octa-core CPU only have two gigs of RAM memory, when they should have at least three gigs too)]. Thus, that's the pros and some recommendations (in addition to some other thoughts), and now to....

The cons are what I touched on above, as well as the lousy speakers (although the sound can be boosted with apps that are available), and Amazon's continued bucking of the Google Play Store for their own far-inferior Appstore [for the latter I recommend the Windows program, "Amazon Fire Toolbox" ( just Google it---there's that Google again! :op ) to install Google Play's four files onto Amazon tablets automatically, which is quite convenient; and it also has some other nice conveniences that I won't go into here (which I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with!)]. I can't recall any other cons right now, or I haven't noticed any yet; therefore, I will update with further pros and cons if I come across and/or am reminded of any.

Overall, I recommend this tablet, and the wireless charging dock if you opted for it as well, and I believe you will be happy with its and/or their functionality and convenience.

Works as stated. Does not work with most cases. We have to take Kindle out of the case to charge, but still does the job. It is more convenient to charge than plug in cable.

My device and charging dock are nearly 4 years old as of December. About a week ago, my old dock began to make a godawful static sound and started cutting the power to my portable phone. This is a sign the electromagnet is malfunctioning. I was amazed I got this for $30 on sale. I prefer charging on the dock because the cable and plug that come with Fires do not fit exactly right and it charges so slowly. The charging dock is much faster and more reliable.

Works even with a tablet cover
  • Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2020
I was excited about this thing because it sounds like a perfect companion to the 2020 HD 8 Plus fire tablet, but they cut too many corners to make it worth buying.

First, the power cable for it should have been USB-C, so you could either use it to power the wireless charging dock OR any other USB-C device by plugging into it directly. That way, you could also use your many other USB-C charging cables you surely already own to power this dock if the dock's original cable breaks or gets lost. Instead, they have an archaic, device specific power adapter that's just one more thing you have to keep track of. Granted, this is probably intended to be set up on a nightstand once and left there forever, but in my use case, I intended to bring this on the road occasionally. That leads me to my next point...

This dock takes up a lot of space and it doesn't collapse any smaller for packing to travel with. If you, like I, thought this would be a cool set up to travel with occasionally, you are mistaken. Surely, you'll want to toss your HD 8 Plus in a bag and take it with you on both short and long trips, but this thing is too cumbersome to bring along, and there would be a high risk this would break if packed in luggage unless you arranged it extremely carefully, or pack it in its original box with fitted(ish) foam.

Last negative point is that while it can theoretically wirelessly charge many other devices, I had an extremely difficult time getting it to charge my Galaxy S20. On a dozen or more attempts, I couldn't consistently (less than 50% success rate) get it to charge my phone. It initially seems to work but after a few seconds, the charging indicator LED flashes red and stops charging my phone. I wanted to use the dock to charge my phone overnight and swap to the tablet during the day while I'm at work but those hopes are dashed. There's no way I'm going to have one wireless charging dock for my phone and another for my tablet sitting right next to each other.

Overall, it's bulky, won't travel well, and really only provides the minor convenience of not having to plug your new HD 8 Plus in to a USB-C charger when you're at home. I highly suggest just getting a case (which you're definitely going to buy anyway) that also serves as a kickstand to use the "show mode" when desired. The use case is too limited to justify the cost and space it takes up.
