First impressions of the Pixel Watch2 plus updates
    3 out of 5 stars
First impressions of the Pixel Watch2 plus updates
Having tried a TicWatch Pro5 and a OnePlus2 over recent weeks and having sent both back as i could never Google Wallet to work consistently across either of those two watches…I have great hope for the Pixel2 watch. I have a Pixel7 phone, so with a Pixel7 phone, Pixel2 watch and Google Wallet….what could go wrong? Nothing, I hope. I wont try to use Google Wallet for another 2 days yet on the Pixel2 watch. i will update the review once i try that a few times. I have used my Pixel7 phone with Google Wallet for a long time now and whenever the Ticwatch or the OnePlus watches did not work, my Pixel7 phone worked with Google Wallet every time. So, obviously an issue with those other two watches. I “assume” that Google will get this correct on the Pixel2 watch. I did end up using the longer strap that comes with the watch. Taking the strap off is a bit of a pain, probably for most men who keep their nails short. I had my wife use her nail to push the very small “button” and slide the shorter strap off. Putting the longer one was a bit of a pain also until i read the very small manual again and actually used the longer strap to push the button (and not my own short finger nail), then the longer strap went on first time. For me, not the best design for changing straps. But, in general, the installation was a breeze. Probably better than the other two watches. I did buy a foldable charger which will charge both my phone a Pixel2 watch. Looks pretty good on the nightstand. I'm keeping an eye on how long a charge on the watch holds. Last night it was fully charged when I went to bed and was at 88% when I woke up after about 7 hours of sleep. During the day, I get various notifications, an odd phone call or two. As the watch his new, I am obviously playing with settings etc, but that should settle down once I get used to the watch. With Google Wallet, I used the Pixel2 watch twice yesterday. Once at WaWa for gas and once at Publix (groceries). Neither of the two other watches worked at Publix. What was interesting is that when using Wallet on my phone at Publix I get the blue and white check mark very quickly but when using the watch, the checkout terminal showed me a "please wait" or similar message and was accepted once the cashier finished ringing up the purchases. I'll check that out again in future Publix purchases. Alarms...I have 3 alarms set on my phone for Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 06:30 and had to set these manually on the watch so alarms o NOT sync between the phone and the watch. I think I have the standard clock app on my phone but not sure...I just looked at it on the phone but not obvious if I added this app or if it is the standard app. UPDATE 7/11/2024 Google Pixel2 Watch – Battery Loss and Google Wallet Observations Battery loss Day2 06:00 to 18:00 battery 88% -> 69% 23:30 to 06:45 battery 100% -> 88% Day3 06:00 to 18:00 battery 88% -> 54% Day4 23:00 to 06:30 battery 100% -> 93% Sleep mode enabled by time setting FitBit enabled (NOT premium) – For my purposes (I’m 74), premium doesn’t seem worth it. I get a phone call or two, notifications and time checking Took cat to the vet for yearly checkup Watch Google Wallet did NOT work, Pixel7 phone also did NOT work. Turns out that they take Apple Pay but NOT Google Pay (why would a vendor do this?) Day5 Hyundai dealer, Pixel2 watch accepted for service payment. Had to hold the watch almost touching the pay terminal Day6 Watch lost 9% of battery while sleeping over night (22:15 to 06:00) from 100% to 91% Treadmill this morning, FitBit seems to disagree with the figures that my treadmill provides Treadmill – 31 Minutes, 1.53 miles, 111 calories FitBit – 21 minutes, 1.32 miles, 274 calories It’s interesting that the watch seems to recognize that I am exercising and prompted me to select a mode. I chose “treadmill”…this was after I had been walking for a number of minutes. That may explain some of the differences shown above…but not the calories I would think. You should wipe your wrist and watch dry after exercising. UPDATE 7/16/2024 IF I press start on the watch as I start walking, the treadmill and watch statistics are pretty close. Heartbeat (obviously changing) is pretty much the same between treadmill and watch). Miles walked (treadmill says 1.5 miles, watch says 1.4 miles). Treadmill doesn't count steps although the watch does. Google Wallet/Pay or whatever they are calling it today. It seems that there are some stores that take Apple Pay but NOT Google Wallet/Pay. My vet is like that, local Chinese restaurant last night was the same. From some web searching, it seems that Apple Pay is used a lot more than Google Wallet/Pay. My local Publix supermarket takes the Pixel2 watch but refused the earlier smart watches I tried (TicWatch nPro5 and the OnePlus Pro). So, it would appear that this Pixel2 watch is more reliable than the other two using it for credit card charges. What make this watch even better is a larger unit. I read that the Pixel3 may have two sizes. Watch accepted for payment at the Olive Garden yesterday. I had to hold the watch very close to the pay terminal. It seemed to accept it as I kinda tapped the watch on the pay terminal gently. Not sure if tapping it actually did the trick or not. UPDATE 7/24/2024 The Pixel2 watch accepted at more places with Google Wallet than either of the two previous watches I tried although still has rejections occasionally when the phone works straight away. Treadmill use and tracking I notice that when turning treadmill mode on for the watch that it does update the FitBit app on some sort of basis (not sure on what basis though). Sleeping the phone and then immediately waking it up again updates the FitBit app on the phone. Tracking seems relatively close to the readings on my treadmill but certainly NOT the same. I guess I should expect that. The watch also buzzes a LOT while I am walking on the treadmill. It is NOT obvious why this is. Multiple notification buzzes at a time. No actual notifications showing on the watch. I presume that is must be FitBit related but it sure isn't obvious why. Maybe some parameter exceeded on FitBit? UPDATE 8/1/2024 On the treadmill this morning. Fitbit seems to disagree with my treadmill. Treadmill figures 29.29 minutes, 1.5 miles, 107 calories Fitbit figures 26 minutes, 1.42 miles, 781 calories I don’t understand the calories difference. One thing to remember is to always stop treadmill activity on the watch. The one time that I forgot to do this..FitBit congratulated me for walking for 122 hours! UPDATE 9/1/2024 Still mostly pleased with the watch. The Google Pay is somewhat hit and miss. Some places like Panera (at least my local one) seem to have a hard time with the watch but not with my Pixel7 phone. I have used the watch to pay at my local Ruby Tuesday several times. Tonight, neither the watch or the phone worked there and the server tried 2 different pay terminals. Had to use the credit card…make sure you still carry one with you and don’t rely on the watch or phone 100%! UPDATE 9/22/2024 I have to say that I am kinda disappointed in the watch and using Google Wallet. There are a variety of places around where I live that seem to have issues with using the Pixel2 watch to pay. The Pixel7 (and now my new Pixel9 XL) always seem to work when paying. The watch works, maybe, 30 to 40% o the time. Maybe it is that the phone has more power than the watch? But, as I said, I am disappointed in how the watch functions with Google Wallet. Maybe the Pixel3 watch will be better? UPDATE 9/24/2024 I’m now seeing the battery drop from 100% around 7AM to 12% by 4PM. Not sure why. I do get notifications on but not, to me, huge amounts. I have FitBit setup but I don’t do a whole lot with it either. Right now, I am having an issue where the Pixel9 XL phone and watch are not syncing. The phone tells me that it is paired with the phone but if I go into the phone alarm settings and try to turn on “Alarm sync”, it tells me “Can’t pair with a watch”, check the Google Pixel Watch app to pair Pixel Watch with this phone”. However, I have 12% battery, so I told the phone to forget the watch, rebooted the watch and will have to wait until he watch gets some more charge to re-pair it. UPDATE 10/3/2024 I turned off the always on display and the tilt-to-wake. I left just the touch-to-wake on. Battery life much better now. I still find the best way is to put the watch on charge when I don't need it for an hour or two. Charging is pretty quick. If you use the FitBit app, make sure that you have a decent charge before wearing the watch to bed (maybe 60% plus?). I did also pay and download another watch face (VIDAMOL). Only $0.99. It allows the battery charge to be displayed at the top of the watch face with a size that I can read without glasses on. This watch face better than the "standard" ones for me.

Obsessed with my pixel watch. I am a pixel phone user as well, so love that it connects with my Google fit and my Fitbit app. Lots of apps available on it, as well as phone answering and texting. Gps works great! I use it mostly to track my vitals and workouts. But my ring camera also connects to it and shows me when someone is at my door. Only negative is that the battery doesn't last long--maybe a day and a half. However, it charges quickly and I just set it on the charger while I do my makeup and get ready for my morning and it's almost fully charged by then. Lots of clock face customization too.

I got the Pixel Watch 2 a few weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier with it! I was looking for a smartwatch that would not only look cool but also offer great functionality, and the Pixel Watch 2 delivers on both fronts.

The design of this watch is sleek and modern, and I love the customizable watch faces that allow me to express my style. The build quality is top-notch, and it feels durable, which is important for someone like me who's always on the go.

The performance is outstanding. The watch is super responsive, and the apps load quickly. I can easily track my steps, heart rate, and sleep quality, which helps me stay on top of my fitness goals. Plus, the integration with Google Fit is seamless, making it easy to monitor my progress.

The battery life has been impressive. I can wear it all day, even with active use, and I usually have some juice left at the end of the day. The fast charging feature is a lifesaver when I need to top it up in a hurry.

One of my favorite features is the Google Assistant integration. It's incredibly handy for setting reminders, asking questions, and controlling smart home devices. Voice commands work like a charm, and it feels like having a personal assistant on my wrist.

The Pixel Watch 2 also keeps me connected with notifications from my phone, so I don't miss important calls or messages. It's a great way to stay in the loop without constantly checking my phone.

Overall, the Pixel Watch 2 is a fantastic smartwatch for teenagers like me. It combines style, performance, and functionality in one package. I can't recommend it enough!

This watch is an upgrade from any Fitbit model in my opinion. I can easily access my contacts and create a message or call someone directly from my watch if I can't get to my phone. I find the step count more accurate than Fitbit while pushing a baby stroller.

It charges using a magnetic charger via Type-C and charges within about an hour. The battery doesn't last as long as I'd like but it doesn't bother me unless I forget to charge my watch in the morning.

It keeps track of my heart rate and monitors for any irregular signs.

Very decent way for the value!

So I quickly learned after getting the watch a few days ago to go into the watch's settings, click battery, and turn on the battery saver. To have your watch come on, you gently tap the screen or press the crown button. This has greatly improved the battery life. But YOU shouldn't have to do that with a watch that costs this much.
On the plus side, you can change just about every setting imaginable, and the Fitbit is a nice touch (despite most of the good features behind a subscription service). That's called Google greed. You'll get used to it. They're a monopoly for a reason. Using it to make and receive calls is awesome. Got a call the other day and was able to talk as I washed the dishes. No earbuds are required. The person who called me said the audio was great.
I highly recommend this if you don't mind the craptacular battery life. I'm surprised they didn't fix it with a software update. Something is feasting on the power. Or they went with the lowest bidder for parts.
Oh, if you have fat fingers or medium-sized ones, forget about the keyboard. LOL. You'll need a stylus (yes they work). The speech-to-text is very good but you have to remember to say "period" or "comma" when composing messages. If you don't, it'll be one long sentence without proper punctuation. You can even say "heart emoji" and it'll insert that. You can also go back and edit the message with your fingers and use the keyboard to correct mistakes. I'll update my review if needed and the longer I use it. Oh, the ECG works and is very cool. Even the sleep monitor caught my apnea.

En fait cette montre dépasse mes attentes, elle est conviviale, un écran tactile, des applications vraiment utiles et à prix intéressant pour ce qu'elle permet de faire. Connectivité facile aussi.

This is both my first Pixel Watch (former Apple Watch 8) and first serious review as I have quite a bit of experience with smartwatches. The Pixel Watch brings so much to the table that you didn't thinknyou needed, but falls short in small areas. Here's what I think 2 weeks in:

      Pros:

      - The Display: It's vibrant, bright, clear and (unfortunately tested against doorknobs and washing machines) quite durable.
      - Durability: As with the display, it seems very well constructed.
      - Home integration: it's seamlessly integrated into the quick access menu and there a widget for a larger view. It works very well for controlling simple devices (best with lights, smart switches), more complex devices (volume control on a specific device, use of the remote on the watch, etc) is best left to your phone.
      - Fitbit feature integration: truly the proper implementation of fitness on a watch. The customization of the menus, the wide widget choice, and face options create a personal experience.

      Meh:

      - Battery life: It's very much average for battery. I find it's slightly better than the Apple Watch 8. Remember that it's a smartwatch so 24 hour battery life is the limit (Apple Watch as a competitor hits the same mark for $200 more).
      - Fitbit Premium: Thankfully it comes with a year free, but paying extra for possibly irrelevant data may not be worth it for you.
      - Strap Connector: It serves it function, but if it's not on your wrist it clicks as though it's not secured fully. It always is so that not a worry though the noise when using other straps can give it a cheap feel.
      - Software: A 90% complete product is phenomenal but some of that 10% is basic. Assistant at times will not connect, your watch can unlock your phone but not the other way around (it's been locked for hours on my arm without noticing - it doesn't buzz or notify). Can use some polishing.
      -
      Cons:

      - Charging: it's fast which is ideal, but it needs to be set exclusively in ONE way (as shown in the photo). I've missed a few charges by not lining it up properly.
      - Strap Selection: if you're like me, you're immediately thinking of the band you want before your watch arrives. The selection is unfortunately very low in quantity and quality. There are some good ones out there, but they can be expensive (if in Canada, import fees are added as most come from the US).
      - Original band sizing: It seems as though, for those with smaller wrists, each rung is either too loose or way too tight. It's personal of course, but forms a lower quality first impression.
      - Watch Faces: using 3rd party apps uses quite a bit of battery and resources, slowing things down. The selection from their options are 90% analog (due to the round shape), which can be cluttered or boring.
      - Quick Menu: the one area you can't customize is the one you would most want to. For now, there are quite a few functions (water lock, theatre mode, lock mode, auto brightness on/off) are specific from person to person, but cannot be changed. Boo Google, boo.

I would buy it again, but Google is known for having hardware issues down the road so we'll see how it holds up. Nothing is perfect, so still 5 stars!
