Scene on Radio

Scene on Radio is a two-time Peabody-nominated podcast that dares to ask big, hard questions about who we are—really—and how we got this way. Our latest is Season 7, Scene on Radio: Capitalism. Previous series include Seeing White (Season 2), looking at the roots and meaning of white supremacy; MEN (Season 3), on patriarchy and its history; The Land That Never Has Been Yet (Season 4), exploring democracy in the U.S. and why we don’t have more of it; The Repair (Season 5), on the cultural roots of the climate crisis; and Season 6, Echoes of a Coup, the story of the only successful coup d'etat in U.S. history, in Wilmington, North Carolina, in 1898. Produced and hosted by John Biewen, with collaborators, Scene on Radio comes from the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke University. The show is distributed by PRX.

A Masterclass in Understanding the wide umbrella that is Captialism

I can’t say enough about this podcast. It’s thorough, asks the hard questions, and is presented by the wonderful hosts John Biewen and Chenjerai Kumanyika. The interviews and facts are compelling, and I’ve learned so much that I’ve even bought books they referenced to continue my learning journey. The storytelling is engaging and thought-provoking, making complex topics accessible and relevant. I hope they continue to produce more seasons.

Wow! You guys are absolutely fabulous! I so appreciate the thoughtful analyses and heartfelt musings on many of the fundamental issues of our times. I have learned so much and feel empowered to share with others. May we all find a way to create that world we want to live in - one that honors people and the planet and allows us to live a life of fulfillment!
Greater than the sum of its episodes

I've listened to each season several times. Each fills in gaps to the history of the land of my birth. Against the backdrop of previous series, the climate and capitalism episodes feel more urgent and robust. Kudos to the writers & editors!
Phenomenal

Just so well thought out and delivered. Scene on Radio has exposed me to so many great perspectives on things I feel I already was an expert in. I just wish there was more content, which would be difficult due to the thought and cars put into every episode and season.
