Q: 3 hours? So if the bad guy comes to vandalize my farm at 1:00am and I don't see the alert until 6:00am, it's already been deleted by then? Also-is this compatable with the Google Mesh wi-fi booster?

You still have basic motion detection, watch live feed, and get videos up to 3 hours in the past, which will automatically expire and be deleted after 3 hours. Depending on which Nest Aware subscription you will avail, your doorbell records and stores either event-based video history or 24/7 video history in the Nest or Google Home app.

These are not security cameras. I own three of them one in my front yard because my yard gets damaged along with my poles on my front lawn. This camera you can't even tell what kind of a car it is. That's how blurry it is. Let alone see if you can get part of a license plate. They also and $150 a year to watch that which you can't see anyway and then try and make a clip and save it. Forget it. What a pain.

Does not work with the nest application, makes no sense if you already have nest cameras. Does not work with nest aware. Only shows activity it picks up. I like that it’s magnetic and has a good hold, easy to setup once you know it has to setup through the Google app and not nest. Way too expensive for how limited it is.

A subscription is required to use the camera at all. Battery life is absolutely horrendous, it would barely last a day off the charger. Half the time the videos would only be 2 seconds long or listed as “unavailable” even after changing the sensitivity settings. Would advise anyone to get a different product than this.

Here are a few steps you can try on your device: Plug the camera into a power source. Locate the reset button on the back of the camera. Tip: The reset button on the Nest Cam (battery) is located on the back of the camera head. Press and hold the button: At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times and you'll hear a countdown tone. At 12 seconds, the status light will be steady, solid yellow while the camera starts the factory reset and you'll hear a confirmation tone. Release the button. Your camera will restore to its factory settings. After you need to complete the setup process again. In case you need further assistance there are many ways to contact us (email, phone or live chat).

i bought this for my office to replace the wired one since it looked a bit tacky, after fully charging it, the battery only lasted me one day! i switched the settings a bit to see if itll help the next day but it was the same and i had to charge it AGAIN. I am returning this and might switch to Ring

Does not integrate with any smart home system

The camera, itself appears to be OK. The only exception is that the power cable was designed backwards. The major problem is that you cannot use this “Nest” camera with the “Nest” app. You have to use it in the Google Home app where its functionality and capabilities are rendered useless. None of the features available in the Nest app are accessible in the Home app. There is also an insane list of restrictions for setting up automations. So many, that every automation I’ve ever tried to set up gives you an error saying it’s not permitted. Even something as simple as turning the camera off when you’re home. Also, any integration that Google Home has with Smart Home applications hides this camera from them, so you cannot integrate it with anything. This camera is the worst purchase I ever made.

Google destroyed Nest

As many others have warned - Nest cameras, like so many things, have been utterly destroyed by Google. They’ve become such an awful company. Do Not Buy This Garbage. Google home app is required, which makes even perfectly good legacy Nest cameras so infuriating to use, that it’s just not worth it. Sadly, despite the cameras being exceptional (they weren’t designed by Google), you must use Googles native app which is slow and buggy, to put it mildly. You’ve been warned.

Bad battery software that doesn't charge when plugged in. I have an arlo and that has no problem staying plugged in and operates all the time. Also the user software is Google Home, if you want to add another user, they will have the same permissions as you, meaning if you add a guest user they can delete you the owner and then they would become the owner, I hope they change this soon.

Newer version is not worth it!

Compared to the older generation of wired cameras, this camera doesn’t cut it at all! The newer version does not run on the nest app. I was required to download the google home app and it’s all wonky. Charging the battery is required 1x a week. Too difficult to filter notifications. Bring back the old version!

Do not buy. It’s not compatible with Google Nest App. Nest is ending as of April 2024 and Google wants you to use their Google Home App that’s awful. Camera is fuzzy, motion pick up doesn’t ding on your app like Nest does. I’m returning this camera, I didn’t know anything of this information until after I bought it. We all need to call Google and start complaining of the older cameras we can’t use now. Google Nest was such a great product and they just ruined a great thing. Now I have to research another security camera that has an app and has continuous footage.

It lasted less than a year! After 9 months the battery stopped charging! Tried everything to get it to charge but nothing worked. Such a waste of money! It doesn’t work as well as the indoor plug in nest camera.

I was so excited to get this but was extremely let down. Long story short it requires a subscription, the battery life is a joke, and it is absolutely TERRIBLE at detecting & recording movement AKA not helpful for security at all. First off, you need a subscription to do anything except view the live feed. There’s one level where you pay for restricted recording and history that auto deletes at a specific amount of days, or you pay more and get unlimited recording and saving. Second, if you have all notifications/recording on, the battery lasts MAYBE 2 days. If you have half the notifications/recording on, you get up to a week if nothing happens. I had to turn off all notifications and really restrict the movement it records to get this to last 1 week at a time before I have to recharge it. I purchased this BATTERY camera because the ideal place for it does not have access to a plug unless I trail an extension cord along the floor or ceiling. Another big con is with the limited recording AKA can never and will never record the entire time, it will ONLY record when there is movement. This thing is so so bad at “detecting” movement. I will be moving all around my apartment for hours and the camera will MAYBE detect my movement once, unless I’m super close to the camera. When I try to use it to watch my dog, it doesn’t detect his movements at all so I can’t see anything since there is no recordings to watch. Do not purchase this camera. If you are set on getting a camera from google, get the regular plug in kind since the battery barely adds any life. Even better, to purchase a cheaper version on a big marketplace website (hint hint) that’s actually worth the money. Also if you do decide to keep this plugged in, you’ll have to purchase additional pieces for it to stand upright, another non-win for the item. P.S. I figured since this is so easily portable I could hook it up and use it at other places. NOT the case, trying to make it work has completely wiped the history and now it won’t even work with my regular home Wifi/google devices and is now a piece of junk taking up space.

Used to love nest cameras but beware, they are no longer compatible with the nest app. The camera no longer records everything, it only records movement. If you know nest cameras, they dont always pick up everything so even if there is someone outside, it will not detect it and if it doesn’t detect it, it wont save or record the video. Google is single handedly ruining what was once a great system!!! GO BACK TO THE NEST APP!!! GOOGLE HOME SUCKS!!!
