    Never Buying Netgear products again
I have been buying Netgear products for 15 years so a few years ago I purchased the ORBI 850 mesh router. Three years later and over $1500 the 850 router went kaput!!! So I purchased an 860 Wi-Fi 6 ORBI router and guess what! It is not compatible with the 850 satellites. Both of them are supposedly Wi-Fi6 both carry the ORBI name but there's no compatibility. Netgear has changed their entire corporate structure where they seem to be looking down their noses at their customers. They are now charging more and giving less I am never purchasing Netgear products again I hope this review finds someone else experiencing the same problem and they will write a review just the same. Time for these holier than now big corporations to eat a little humble pie.

I had to replace my old router because it wasn't able to handle all of the connections generated by my smart plugs/switches/speakers. Music would halt and fail perodically and devices would drop offline. This router performs flawlessly. The only issue I hit was that this router combines 2.4 and 5Ghz band frequencies under a single SSID and the router uses the best speed for the connection. My previous router used seperate SSID's for each band so I had to do some minor conversion.

Replaced an 12-year old wireless router with the RBR860S. I copied all of the settings from the old Netgear to the new one and it seamlessly installed. WiFi distance is fantastic and the speed is good. This is my second Orbi system. I will add a satellite if needed but it looks like I will have good coverage with the one unit.

I love this router. This was an upgrade from Netgear RAX45. So far it works well and the signal strength is good. I took 1 star away because the setup was difficult using the app. I spent two hours trying to resolve issues with the app setup, and I'm a 30+ years computer software engineer. I even reset the router a couple of times. So save yourself some time, and use Netgear's manual computer setup, instead of the app. The computer setup (no cellphone option) only take 10 to 15 minuets.

This router has done nothing but make me angry. There is a KNOWN issue with the orbi networks randomly disconnecting windows ten products that are connected with WiFi. The only solution is to reboot the router. Tech support is all in India, and their only job was to give me the runaround until the 90 day free support window passed, after which paid service is required because it's a "configuration issue", which falls under software support and not a hardware issue. Which brings me to my next point, all parental control features, firewalls, and security services are paid features that require subscriptions. For a device that doesn't even work properly. I get disconnected from my games on a multiple times a day basis. If I didn't pay so much for it I'd put my fist through it for sheer pleasure.

While I enjoyed the protection offered by the Bitdefender’s router, their app was always slow to load and buggy, and by defect or dated technology the router was providing less than half my paid speed. In the same setup, the Orbi Wifi 6 route gives me 100% of my speed, with the same network security I wanted from the Box 2, and all with a modern and so-far reliable app.

I lost my RBR850 router during a storm (somehow it fried the ethernet port), so I purchased this RBR860 to replace it, thinking there would be little to no issue with compatibility of the still functional 850 and 750 satellites I had been using. I was wrong.

Of course I tried to research warranty, support, and repair options. Netgear products are only covered by a 1 year warranty. Lucky me, this happened at month 15. After that 1 year is up, they shut the customer service door in your face and tell you to buy their support subscription package. Their "contact us" buttons on their website just keep looping back to "subscribe for support". Not even a free chat support or email option. Short warranty periods on "durable" products tell me there isn't enough confidence in the product from the manufacturer that it'll survive longer than the warranty.

While the 850 is compatible with 5 other satellites besides its own, the 860 is only compatible with 2 others (and its own 860 series). Those 2 are the RBS40V and RBS50Y. You'd think such a large family of Orbi products would play nice with each other, but that is not the case.

I returned this router and switched to a TP-Link Deco mesh system. It was more affordable, same network performance, and very cross-compatible to fit any mesh network needs. Netgear's prices, compatibility, and warranty have really soured me to any Netgear products.
