Sundays Wind Down 3-Piece Modular Sectional

Reviewer: Shoko Wanger, contributor
Model tested: Sundays Wind Down Modular Sectional
The details: Sundays is a Canadian furniture and home decor brand founded in 2019 with an emphasis on quality, durability, accessibility, and ease. The brand’s offerings are wide-ranging, encompassing living room, bedroom, and dining room furnishings, as well as storage, accessories, and an outdoor collection. Individual sofa and sectional pieces start at around $500, with the most expensive options costing upwards of $7,500.

Ordering process

Price: How much does it cost? Are there payment plans available?

This configuration of the sectional costs $5,130. Sundays offers payment plans through Shop Pay Installments, with options to pay biweekly or monthly, depending on the price of your purchase.

What are the upholstery or customization options? Did you choose any?

Wind Down Collection comes in one upholstery option (a LiveLife performance fabric in a sandy neutral tone called Beach). The sofas are available in a number of different sizes and configurations, with individual components available for purchase on their own.

What is the lead time for customization, manufacturing, and delivery?

Sundays site allows you to plug in your zip code to see the estimated delivery date for your chosen product. When my order was placed, the wait for this sofa was only a few weeks; currently, it’s estimating about 4.5 months for delivery to my NYC neighborhood.

Couch delivery + assembly

What was the delivery process like?

Sundays provides free in-home delivery and assembly to Canada and the continental US. In my case, two delivery workers unboxed the pieces, carried them up the stairs, and assembled the sofa in the location of my choice. It was quick and easy.

What was the assembly process like? How long did it take, and with how many people?

Two delivery workers spent about 20 to 25 minutes in my apartment, from start to finish, arrival to exit. They placed the sectional pieces in the living room corner that I had specified, clipped them together, and arranged the cushions before leaving.

After installation

What are the dimensions? How does it fit in your space? Would it be better suited for a different type of home?

The three-piece modular sectional measures 104"W x 82.5 "D x 34"H, with a seat depth of 27" and a seat height measuring 18" tall. It fits perfectly in our living room, and I imagine the range of sizes in the collection would accommodate spaces of all scales. The ottoman is fairly large, so I recommend measuring in advance to make sure that specific component will fit—our living room is relatively spacious but a smaller space might require a piece that’s configured differently.

Sit test: Is it comfortable? Does it feel well-made? Does the couch have a tendency to sag?

The couch feels well-made and after lots of sitting, there are zero signs of sagging. In fact, sitting on this couch is such a pleasure—we love it! The seats are deep and luxurious and have just the right amount of give. It’s large enough to lie down comfortably, and the ottoman puts it over the top. It almost feels like having an additional bed in the apartment.

Lay test: Is it comfortable? Does it feel well-made? Does the couch have a tendency to sag?

My husband (who is six feet tall), our three-year-old, and I (five feet four) can all lie down on this couch comfortably (though perhaps not all at the same time). All three of us can attest to the comfort of the couch when it comes to naps!

Is the sectional suitable for particular decor styles, and if so, which?

The sofa is neutral and available in multiple sizes, so I think it would work in most contemporary spaces. It’s definitely a piece whose look you could easily alter with different pillows, blankets, and other accessories. You can also experiment with the placement of the throw pillows that come with it. We have them propped against the arms of the sofa for an extra-cozy, cocoon-like look.

Is it durable/practical in a modern home? Is the couch kid- and/or dog-friendly?

The Sundays Wind Down Modular Sectional has been a great fit for us as a family with a young child. In our well-trafficked living room, it definitely takes quite a beating during play time (our toddler can easily climb onto it without our help and loves to run and jump on its cushions); at night, it’s where we curl up to watch movies. I also work from home and often find myself stationed on it with my laptop. Because it’s roomy and deep, I don’t worry about my son falling off of it or taking any big tumbles, despite his many attempts to leap from sofa to ottoman. And though it’s only been a short while, the couch still looks exactly as it did on the day it was delivered. That’s not something I can say of previous couches we’ve owned! Lastly, we appreciate that the detached ottoman allows us to transition easily from daytime play to evening hosting or movie night. It’s a bit like having multiple sofas in one.

This sectional is extremely kid-friendly. It’s deep, has soft edges, and has retained its shape and color despite the aforementioned daily pummeling from our three-year-old. Also, the moveable ottoman has proven extremely versatile. In addition to providing a place to kick up our feet, it's served as a handy alternative to a coffee table, and our son has transformed it into a play surface and an imaginary fire truck on multiple occasions.

What are the care and cleaning instructions? Do you think stains could be easily removed?

The cleaning instructions recommend using paper towels to clean up spills, and specify that heavier stains can be addressed with mild soap and water. The cushion and throw pillow covers can be removed and dry-cleaned or machine washed. We haven’t had any major spills to date, but the stain-resistant fabric has made removing small marks and food remnants a snap.

Do the photos do this product justice? Was there anything you were surprised to see IRL?

The couch looked just the same in real life as it did in the photos. When it was first delivered, the back cushions appeared a bit stiff, but I was pleased to find that with some mushing and fluffing, they relaxed into a softer shape. The only surprise was the size of the ottoman in real life—which was bigger than I imagined—but that wasn’t an unpleasant discovery! For its size, though, it’s very lightweight. Not flimsy or tippy by any means, but light enough that I can slide it around without help if I need to retrieve a lost toy, or reposition it if we’re having people over.
