Specialty Coffee Association and European Coffee Brewing Center Certifications
Tested and Approved

We evaluate Moccamaster coffee brewers across the four T’s of coffee brewing: temperature, time, turbulence, and total dissolved solids (TDS). A brewer that performs within the ideal ranges of the four T’s produces the perfect ratio of coffee flavor compounds extracted into water, which the SCA refers to as “the golden cup.” That ratio creates the flavors we enjoy when we sit back with a good cup of coffee, and every Moccamaster hits that mark every brew cycle.

The Coffee Brewer for Coffee Lovers

Since 1968, Moccamaster coffee brewers have set the global benchmark for at-home coffee brewing. Designed to extract the maximum flavor from your grounds in about 4-6 minutes, coffee from a Moccamaster is comparable to what you would brew using a more complex manual process or drink in a café.

We build our coffee brewers to last, using only the highest quality materials and offering replacement parts. With proper care and maintenance, this should be the last coffee brewer you ever need to buy.

  • Moccamaster coffee brewers are handmade in heart of the Netherlands.
  • Our brewers have a durable metal housing and use a copper boiling element to heat the water, which allows for consistent water temperature control.
  • All plastics are BPA, BPS, BPF, and phthalate-free.
  • We individually test every brewer before it leaves our factory.

Insanely Overrated
Edit********changed from 2 stars to 3 stars. The unit can make a good cup of coffee if you're willing to put in the effort. At this price point, effort should not be a requirement, but I don't mind a bit of effort for good coffee. What I have learned : this unit requires a finer grind than typical . On a baratza encore, setting 13. I also recommend closing the drip stop valve for the first 30 seconds or so to get a nice bloom going. The coffee is still somewhat weak, but my leading theory is the filters are too thick. They trap important oils and flavonoids that provide coffee with taste. The moccamaster filters make too "clean" of a cup.Ultimately, I will keep the unit because I like that I can play with it, and all it really does is send hot water over a basket. Not a whole lot to the process that can be blamed on it. Once I swap out the filters with something less aggressive, I think the brew will be really good.I hate to write this review, because I have looked forward to owning a moccamaster for years. Everyone speaks highly of it , whether it be coffee aficionados , cooking blogs, and kitchen appliance experts. My experience calls into question their taste in coffee.First, the unit itself is underwhelming. The plastics are cheap, flimsy, and warped. The water reservoir cover has a huge gap in its side that would allow all manner of debris and bugs into it. The cover is also a cheap and flimsy plastic that warps easily, preventing a seal with the edges of the reservoir.Similar lack of quality can be seen with the coffee basket as well. It's a low grade plastic basket that sits loosely and haphazardly on an equally flimsy bracket sticking out of the unit. The unit itself has a nice finish, and the aluminum paneling feels like good quality.I will say the carafe is great. The best I've seen in a coffee maker. It will keep coffee hot for atleast 2 hours. Now for the real purpose of this review and the reason for such a low rating. The design is fundamentally flawed , and guaranteed to produce a weak brew. As seen in the photo, the shower arm is off center. Only the half of the grounds closest to the unit will get properly saturated. The result is water will oversaturate half of the grounds, and under saturate the other half. The only way to remedy this is to drastically reduce the grind size to slow down the flow, or to manually baby sit the flow stop in order to force it to bloom. Neither of these are desirable. For one, you want the coarsest grind you can get away with when brewing coffee, and two, you pay for an auto drop so you don't have to baby sit it.After much experimentation with different beans and comparing to my Oxo 8 cup, blind tastings have repeatedly proven the moccamaster produces a flatter, weaker and more astringent brew. My guess, the poor design of the shower head leads to only half of the grounds being extracted, and the half being extracted is over extracted.Sadly, I don't feel this unit is worth the fuss. My Oxo was almost half the cost and produces a consistently better coffee. I have no idea why this unit is so highly rated when it's design flaws are plain as day, for all to see and taste. Further more, the material quality is objectively poor compared to rivals. The manufacturer claims this is to ensure their plastics are safe and environmentally friendly, but " environmentally friendly" is just code word for cost cutting at the customer's expense. The best part about this unit is the carafe, which is insanely good.If anyone is curious: I brewed 40 oz water to 69g coffee with two separate beans. I played with the manual flow stopper to induce bloom ( a unit at this price should bloom for you).

I recently purchased the Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Brewer, which has quickly become my kitchen's favorite appliance. Here are some of the standout features that make this coffee brewer exceptional:

    Easy to Use

From the moment I unpacked it, the Moccamaster was straightforward to set up and operate. The controls are intuitive, with a simple on/off switch and a selector for strength of brewing. There's no need to navigate complicated settings or programs; it's all about making great coffee efficiently.

    Easy to Clean

Cleaning this coffee maker is a breeze. The parts that come into contact with coffee grounds and water are easily accessible and removable. The filter basket slides out smoothly, and the insulated carafe has a wide opening, making it simple to wash by hand. Regular maintenance doesn't feel like a chore, which is a big plus for daily use.

    Stylish on the Counter

The Moccamaster boasts a sleek and modern design that adds a touch of elegance to my countertop. Its clean lines and high-quality materials make it not just a functional appliance but also a stylish addition to the kitchen decor. It comes in various colors, allowing you to choose one that best matches your style.

    Carafe Keeps Coffee Hot

One of the features I appreciate most is the carafe's ability to keep coffee hot for an extended period. The thermal design ensures that the coffee stays at an optimal temperature without compromising flavor. This is perfect for those mornings when I want to enjoy multiple cups over time without brewing a fresh pot each time.

    Conclusion

Overall, the Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Brewer delivers on both performance and aesthetics. Its ease of use and cleaning make it convenient for daily brewing, while its stylish appearance enhances the kitchen space. The efficient carafe design keeps coffee hot and flavorful, making every cup enjoyable. I highly recommend this coffee maker to anyone seeking a reliable and elegant brewing experience.

I have to say that some of the reviews of this product make me despair of the whole review process. They seem to fall into "no coffee maker should cost this much," or "it's not made of platinum." In either case, my advice is this: don't buy it! For those interested in a review of the thing itself, so you can decide if it's worth the (high) price here it is.

My wife and I like coffee. It's one of the day's regular pleasures and we drink coffee every day. So we think our regular use justifies some extravagance. We buy good coffee. For years we used a small plastic Krupps grinder and a Krupps then Cusineart coffee maker. And it was fine. But then I took a flier on a burr grinder--way more expensive than the Krupps grinder (c. $100 vs $25 or so). And it was a revelation!! So then, with some Christmas money in hand we did research and were persuaded by a Cooks' Illustrated review and bought the Technivorm. Wow! My idea of coffee is entirely changed. I get all that stuff about "notes of chocolate," and all that. It is just terrific coffee. What excellent wine is to table wine (and we drink a lot of table wine; so this is not about snobbism).

The whole Technivorm schtick is simple: a good pump, and keep the coffee at c. 200F until it comes out the nozzle over the coffee. Who would think it would make such a difference? But it does. The machine itself is perfectly durable, but it's not fancy and is largely plastic, not metal. Whatever. The thermos keeps the coffee hot (if, as the instructions suggest, you rinse it first with hot water) for at least 5 hours. After that you should make a new pot anyway. It is fast, and it is quiet. It makes 10.5 cups, which is a little less than we'd like when company comes (12 is good).

The question is, and it's a real question--is this indulgence the way you want to spend your money?

And of course, its durability is unproven--we've only had it for a month. But it makes wonderful coffee. If that's really important to you, and you've got the money, then this machine won't disappoint you.

    =====
A couple of years later: The TV is still going strong, still making wonderful coffee. It has slowed a bit despite occasional white-vinegar treatments. Most notable: the carafe has colored on the inside and has a sort of brown glaze on the bottom. It seems not to affect the taste, but looks a bit grotty. Otherwise, still well worth the money!
    =======
13 (!!) years on and still going strong. DO be sure and use both the descaler and the cleaner recommended by the company. I didn't descale thoroughly enough and that might mean the boiler (no pump, as someone kindly pointed out) is less efficient. Another TVMM may be in our future. But that's on me. The cleaner removes a shocking amount of gunk! Still wonderful coffee, quickly brewed and utterly reliable. Some reviews still strike me as foolish but whatever. Most are enthusiastic as positive as is mine—still, after more than a decade!

Use the Moccamaster guidelines for the coffee to water mix and you'll have the very best coffee experience available in my opinion. There was no trial and error. The coffee flow stopper and simple on/off switch allows you to let the coffee/water mix to bloom for 30 seconds or so in the coffee funnel for the optimal experience. However the stopper and plastic funnel is kind of cheap and wonky. Sometimes when moving the stopper to close, it doesn't. And the coffee continues to dribble into the carafe. It's because the mechanism is cheap and feels cheap. I do like how you don't have a permanent water condensation state inside your unit that makes you wonder what biologics are forming there. It's expensive but worth it, especially considering you can replace worn parts. Perhaps some of these parts need an upgrade.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very fine drip coffee maker

There are certain elements of this coffee maker that have been very well thought out. I think the most critical part is the boiler, which is located in the stainless steel tower, which very rapidly brings the water to the precise right temperature for an ideal brew. The second element that really impressed me is the stainless carafe. It's easy to fill and keeps the coffee hot for the duration of my wife's and my long Sunday mornings over a pot of coffee. I've read several reviews saying that the pot lacks thermal qualities and that their coffee got cold too quickly. That was not at all my experience. Most of those reviews were from a few years ago, which makes me wonder if the design was improved since then. Other reviewers comment on the relatively large footprint of the KBT... it's actually more compact and elegant looking than the Cuisinart model we replaced. It is; however, much taller, which could be an issue if placed under a cabinet (not our case). Overall, I really love the look of this machine. The plastic parts are meant to be replaceable over time, which is good to know such an expensive appliance will be supported over the long term. Some say the plastic is cheap. I'm pretty fussy and I think it's okay. Not Red Dot design award great but certainly not an issue that detracts from the package as a whole. Now, the most important part: how's the coffee? It's definitely a lot better than our previous machine from Cuisinart. There's some science behind getting the water temperature just right and using the right ratio of water to coffee. The Mochamaster comes with a guide that I feel waaaaay overstates the amount of coffee to use. I brew Kicking Horse Three Sisters and using the recommended 6.66 double scoops of coffee for 10 cups nearly sent me into cardiac arrest! It's actually recommended to cut the strength with hot water rather than to reduce the brewing ratio but I have backed off the potency to my taste. The point being, this takes some trial and error to get just right for your brew. The one thing I noticed right away is how much smoother the coffee tastes and the absence of the bitterness I used to experience with my old machine. Part of it might be because this machine is new/clean but I suspect it's just a lot better. As the adage goes, you get what you pay for. This machine isn't cheap and value is a very personal measure. For my part,I'm very happy with my purchase. Five-stars to the people at Technivorm for being passionate about brewed coffee. Not everyone wants coffee from a puck! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Still love it after 6 months

We bought our moccamaster six months ago and are still loving it! We wanted to make a switch from the keurig so as to stop using all those coffee pods. Now we have a new routine with our coffee grinder and moccamaster side by side on the counter. At first I was tempted to buy a machine with lots of programmable features but, like others have said, fewer features mean less parts to break down. This machine makes a pot of coffee in 6 minutes or less. Once we found the right beans to grind and amounts to use, we now enjoy a perfect cup of coffee every time. The main thing about the moccamaster is that it heats the water up to the perfect temperature. The coffee in the carafe stays very hot for a few hours - but a pot made in the morning would only be warm, not hot, by afternoon. I have no issues with how it pours - you get to know how far to twist open the lid before pouring. I’ve never had it clog up. Works great every time. And I just love how it looks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodness comes with some flaws !!!

Before buying the Moccamaster, I had the Bona Vita coffee maker. While Bona Vita made good coffee it lacked the finish and body that one aspires from coffees at a mom and pop store. Thus eventually I returned the machine. And going through some positive reviews, I ended up buying the Mocamaster.

Let me start with some sore points about the coffee maker:
The plastics are light and cheap. The water container is also plastic due to which it might develop scratches over time.
The thread of the carafe lid is "not so friendly" (this wasn't a problem with Bona vita), will take time to adjust.
The body is aluminum, not really stainless steel.
Seems like the cup size is not standard in between the US and Europe. As 10 cups in Moccamster is equal to 8 cups of water in Bona Vita.
The spoon provided is not an exact measure of perfect coffee. The measure varies depending on the type of coffee, ground size and water.

    Now the good part:
After some trial and error, I think I got it right.
Used Organica Zavida coffee from Costco.
I poured 10 cups of water in Moccamaster.
Set the ground level to 3 (from the start) and the number of cups to 8 in my Cuisinart coffee grinder.
Seeped the coffee till the water level in Moccamaster went down to 6 cups (from 10 cups) and released the coffee.

Results: Wow. The coffee had a nice body, tasted a bit buttery and had no bitter undertone. I was amazed, never thought the coffee could taste this good. I never experienced the flavor in Bona Vita. I will keep the machine and try different coffee beans :)

UPDATE AFTER A MONTH: I was only able to get the optimum flavor twice in a month. I upgraded the coffee beans to kicking horse, filtered water and right kind of filter yet the flavor was quite mediocre. I ended up returning the unit and bought the Breville pour over coffee maker. Let's see how it goes.
