Proclaim is an inclusive nude lingerie line made in Los Angeles from earth-conscious fabrics.  We are founded on the principles that fashion should represent all women and can be made in a way that does good for people and the planet.  Proclaim is expanding the definition of nude, one ethically made bra at a time.

 

MADE FROM EARTH-CONSCIOUS FABRICS

We design with a variety of sustainable fabrics, each with their own unique earthy-friendly properties.

TENCEL™

TENCEL™ is the super-soft, sustainable fabric your underwear drawer has been waiting for.

TENCEL™ fibers are produced from wood pulp from sustainably managed sources.  They have earned United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) BioPreferred® designation. 

The fibers have gained a reputation for their environmentally responsible closed loop production process, which transforms wood pulp into cellulosic fibers with high resource efficiency and low ecological impact.

This solvent-spinning process recycles water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99%.

We love this fabric for its soft touch and sustainable, transparent supply chain.

ORGANIC COTTON + HEMP

We use an organic cotton and hemp blend that we love for it’s natural, durable quality. Organic cotton is made without the toxic substances and polluting pesticides conventional cotton is known for. This is knit with hemp, another natural fiber we dig because it is naturally antimicrobial with a high UV resistance.

Hemp fibers are known for their strong and durable nature. The plant is also naturally resistant to insect pests and predators.

ORGANIC PIMA COTTON

We mindfully sourced GOTS certified organic pima cotton for our sock collection. The extra long fiber of pima cotton make it stronger and more durable than regular cotton.  Grown in Mariscal Cáceres, Peru, the organic cotton utilizes rainwater irrigation to nurture the Amazon ecosystem where it is cultivated. 

CUPRO

Cupro is a regenerated cellulose fabric that is made from recycled cotton linter, the fluffy fiber around the plant’s seeds. These linter fibers are too small to be spun and are usually thrown away during cotton production. To create cupro, the cotton linter is dissolved and spun into new fibers and woven into this smooth, durable fabric. Given its cellulose origin and production process, it’s part of the same family of fabrics as Tencel, rayon, Modal and Lyocell. 

We love cupro because it’s a vegan, cruelty free and machine washable alternative to silk that drapes beautifully.

ETHICALLY MADE

The majority of our pieces are made locally in Los Angeles where we’ve partnered with a family-owned factory in LA that pays well above minimum wage and pays employees hourly wages rather than per piece (a practice that often promotes quantity over quality and unsafe work conditions). 

Most of the employees have worked at the factory for 14 years, when the company first started. By manufacturing locally, we work closely throughout the production process - stopping by throughout the week to connect and collaborate with our talented cutting and sewing partners.

Our factory meets the strict labor standards of the City of Los Angeles and State of California and we are committed to working towards payment of a living wage, defined as the hourly rate that an individual in a household must earn to support themselves and their family.

We also work with a local mill to source our sustainable fabrics and local dye house for dying, allowing us to reduce the carbon footprint of our manufacturing process by having our supply chain localized to a 30-mile radius. Being local, we are able to regularly visit and audit all of our first and second stage suppliers and have developed a close relationship with our partners over the years. By manufacturing in Los Angeles, we are proud to contribute to the diverse and sustainable economy where we live.

In 2024, we expanded our supply chain to bring to life our organic pima cotton sock collection, which is sourced and made in Peru. Our socks are meticulously knit in a Fair for Life certified facility continuing our commitment to sustainable and ethical production.

PROCLAIM does not own any factories; however we work closely with partners that are like-minded and share our philosophy. Our vision is to lead the fashion industry towards a more sustainable future. MINIMIZING MICROPLASTICS

"One of the most damaging and long-lived legacies of the plastic pollution crisis is microplastics, a growing threat to human and planetary health." -United Nations, April 2023.

To minimize our contribution to the microplastics crisis, we are consciously selecting only natural-based fabrics instead of synthetic fabrics which shed microplastics. We use TENCEL™, Organic Cotton, Hemp and Cupro. These are combined with the minimal amount of  elastane (10% or less) necessary to give our pieces the stretch and recovery needed for garment longevity.

MINIMIZING TEXTILE WASTE 

We strive to minimize textile waste in our production process by designing strategically. By carefully laying out our patterns, we create relatively few fabric scraps during the cutting process. We've been collecting scraps since PROCLAIM began in 2017 to repurpose into new building materials like insulation.

WATER MANAGEMENT 

We strive to responsibly manage water usage in our supply chain by intentionally selecting materials that have lower water usage.  TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers, which is what we use for 90% of our garments, are produced in a closed loop process which recovers water and 99.8% of solvents, transforming wood pulp into cellulosic fibers with high resource efficiency and low environmental impact. This is a big reason we choose to use TENCEL™ specifically, as opposed cheaper forms of Lyocell.

We also intentionally selected an organic cotton fabric that is combined with hemp. We love hemp because it uses almost 50% less water than cotton to grow.

When it comes to dying, we work with a second generation, BIPOC-owned and LA-based dye-house.  All of their dyes and processes meet Californias strict and world-leading standards for wastewater management. The dyes are low impact, low-energy, and AZO free.

We believe details matter and that when it comes to packaging, less is more. We won't send you unnecessary postcards and stickers that will just end up in the trash bin. Our orders ship with minimal packaging in 100% home compostable mailers.
