- Some of the storage capacity is used for formatting and other purposes and is not available for data storage. 1GB equals 1 billion bytes. Not all capacities available at initial launch.
- Up to 6.5ft/2 m without impact to data on drive on a carpeted floor.
- Compatibility may vary and may be contingent on device formatting and host capabilities.
- MB/s speed measured as maximum sequential performance of device as measured by Crucial on a high-performance desktop computer with Crystal Disk Mark (version 6.0.2 for x64). Your performance may vary. Comparative speed claims measured as maximum sequential performance of similarly situated portable SSDs, mainstream portable HDDs and mainstream USB flash drives from vertically-integrated manufacturers selling under their own brands as of June 2019.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2023Capacity: 2TBStyle: X6 -up to 800MB/sVerified PurchaseI got my previous portable storage solution, the platter-based HDD WD My Passport Ultra in 2TB capacity, back in mid-2015. It's held up for almost eight years and I've been very proud of it. Recently it started to click, most likely meaning that it is on its way out. I take that to mean that the read-write head is striking the inside of the case on occasion. It actually happens maybe only once every two or three minutes when it's idle. So, maybe it's not that bad. And I could retire it to use as an only-occasionally backup drive - when I was copying and moving content from it to the new drive so it could be more easily accessible, the clicking did not occur nearly as often, so maybe I was worried for not much.
Which is, fortunately, not an issue at all with the new SSD that I got just recently: Crucial X6! Same capacity, taking up the same position on my desk, but incredibly small - and no moving parts to wear out! YAY!
Though of course I don't know for sure, I imagine that the inside is a small form-factor M.2 drive flanked with heat spreaders - the only other option is that the drive takes up the entire space inside the case.
Either way, the drive is awesome and performs quite quickly for any number of applications. Much more quickly than the old magnetic drive, that's for sure. A weird thing is that it does not like CrystalDiskMark - creating its test file and then the speed test on it, well, takes a lot longer than I thought it would, whether I keep it on the default of 1 GB or go down to 128 MB. This makes this program unreliable for speed tests in my configuration - if I did not stop the test and let it show the speed that it determined, it would likely be much slower than the actual drive’s speed.
Speaking of my configuration: my computer does not have a USBC port on it natively, and this drive only has a USBC port on it, most likely to save on space and keep the drive as miniscule as it possibly can be. Thus, I had to get a USBC to USBA adapter cable, which I had gotten before for use with another drive. As far as I can tell, without being able to use a benchmark program as previously stated, the functionality and speed is fine with this SUNGUY brand cable. And the cable is fairly snazzy as well as you can see, its nylon-esque cover being braided!
Back at its inception two years ago, this drive was incredibly expensive at $285, and it was only available in 1 and 2 TB variants - now there's a 4 terabyte variant which I may get sometime. I was able to get this 2 TB variant for $110 and I am very happy about that. In retrospect, it might have been a bit better to be a bit more circumspect about my purchase and spend the extra $20 on the X8, which comes with its own USBA adapter and is apparently faster? (limited by the USBA connection, of course)
But that's all right - this will do for me for now, and I'm sure that somewhere down the line I will get the X8 as well, and repurpose this drive for maybe an extra storage device for my Xbox One - or the other way around. Goodness knows it's slow enough with its magnetic drive built in.
So yeah. get this drive if you want a little extra capacity and you're able to find a good spot for it to sit on your desk. Since it is so lightweight and small and thus likely to get lost if you don't secure it, I do highly recommend getting cable clips like those little adhesive/silicone ones that can grab onto cables and hold things securely in place - the ones I got have the brand names of OHill, ChefBee and ONME (yeah, I have lots of cables that need securing! ) and are sold here on Amazon for around $10, and come in both white and black (ONME had some Browns in their collection as you can see, but they stopped selling them over the past two years). Do some shopping as your needs entail 🙂
Take care, awesome fellow computer people, and happy storing!

It came formatted as exFAT with 512k allocation units, which is very wasteful of storage space. I would suggest 128k for most people, but if you have a lot of small files like documents, you might consider NTFS with the default 4k allocation unit. You can format it in any modern format.
The read and write speeds are the same. Many flash media have slower write speeds. The larger files are faster than small files. As with all flash based media I have used, fragmented files are slower than sequential files, which has to do with the charging of the address lines in the the memory chip.
No heat problem like the cheap media have. It will run at full speed for many minutes without a thermal slowdown. Crucial is owned by Micron, one of the best makers of chips and an American company. I think this comes with a 3 year warranty, but it should last for at least 10 years unless subjected to heavy r/w activity.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2023Capacity: 4TBStyle: X6 -up to 800MB/sVerified PurchaseI've had a lot of various type of storage devices, but the "Crucial 4TB" is one of the best I have had so far. I already own 5 of these and I have not had a problem since I started using them.
These devices are very solid and I have not had a problem with stability nor storage. They are super light weight and very easy to fit in any compartment of a backpack, case, or other form of carry-on. I been able to store music, videos, and zip/rar files without a problem. Reading and writing files back-and-forth have not been an issue at all, especially if you use it to store videos and music, and you want to hear and play back video/audio files directly from the storage device.
There's no worry about stability, I have been using these devices for over 2 years now and have never had one give me read issues. (Although I do constantly do defrags and checks regularly so that usually helps)
There are a few concerns you will need to know when you order these...
1.) Although read/write are very stable, I have never had one that reads faster than 50+ Mb/s
2.) This device is not ideal for copying tons of 5Kb-100Kb files, it's very slow to write when it comes to several thousand image or text files (Or similar files of similar size), I was copying over several image files I have stored and it took hours to copy over. Large size (500 Mb - 30 Gb) files copy over quickly and easily, but several small size files (5Kb or less to 100Kb) took forever. Keep this in mind if you need to move tons of image or text files or several thousand other small-size files
3.) It's best to also order extra USB-C codes as the cord that comes with the device is only about 3 inches long. Plus, both ends of the cord are USB-C. So unless you have a USB-C reader, you might wanted to order some extra codes for it. You can usually get a pack of 3 for about $5-$10.
4.) When it comes to listening to music or watching a movie, I have never had a problem with either file types when it comes to reading the files. However, do not watch a movie or listen to music while files are being transferred as it will interfere with the read/write speeds. Plus, doing so will interfere with the video and audio files and will cause your video and audio files to skip or momentarily stop playing as files are being transferred.
Other than what is mentioned, I have not had a real serious issues with the storage devices. Keep doing defrags every so often and they will always work great.

Capacity: 2TBStyle: X6 -up to 800MB/sVerified PurchaseI tested this using the USB 3 A-type adapter I ordered with it and got speeds in excess of 300MBps read and write, which compared to any memory device I've tested is by far the fastest USB 3 device I've tested.
The reason I tested using the USB 3 adapter is that I got this to connect to my wifi router to use as a home cloud drive, which doesn't have USB C socket, and it's working superbly.
It's effectively replacing my home cloud drive: originally had one of those western digital 'mycloud' devices, which has always been quite slow... then wd pulled support for the product leaving owners with a non internet facing home cloud brick as they shut down their servers... then the awful western digital device just fails constantly now, hence investing in this Crucial X6, and it has been an absolute winner in all regards. A perfect replacement.
Being solid state it's quiet, fast, compact and runs fairly cool even when dumping onto it the complete backup from my original piece of rubbish (never going near WD again by the way).
I've had a few Crucial devices in recent years; to name a few... five SATA SSD's to upgrade laptops, three sets of RAM for laptops, three M3 SSDs to again upgrade storage capacity of laptops... and all have been Crucial and all are still performing to the highest possible standards. Fast and reliable, and this X6 pocket sized gem is doing the same.
For under a hundred quid for the 2TB device it's a winner all round in my experience, and given my experience with the Crucial brand in recent years I'm pretty certain this one is also going to be a worthwhile investment. Full marks in all regards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact, potent and inexpensive
Capacity: 1TBStyle: X6 -up to 800MB/sVerified PurchaseNot the fastest SSD but good enough. Writing speed for big files around 300 MB/s. The cable could be longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great drive, great price
Capacity: 1TBStyle: X6 -up to 800MB/sVerified PurchaseIt has tons of capacity. I have backed up all of my home video onto this. This one is a little older so it doesn't have blazing speed. Since I'm only using it for backup that is not an issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, slow as expected.
Capacity: 2TBStyle: X6 -up to 800MB/sVerified PurchaseGrwat value, but a bit slow. Does not require as much power as faster drives, which is a big plus. Runs hot and slows down if you write big anounts of data. Works perfect for my needs to add easily accessible storage to a laptop for music production, where this is used to store sample libraries and sampled instruments that rarely change. Perfect "throwavay drive" that lasts while it lasts, with data well backed up the day it fails :)
