Test your wood.
5 Stars
Test your wood.
I am having custom cove trim made to use between the backsplash in my kitchen and the countertop. Currently we are deciding what kind of wood to use so I wanted to test some of the wood I have available to me. I used a scrap of lightly bug stained pine we are using for the baseboards. The piece is raw rough wood. I also wanted to use this as learning experience. This wood accelerator is very thin. I used a cheap brush, and this is the result of one coat. The instant the accelerator touched the wood it changed to the color you see and after 30 minutes it still looked the same. Due to the roughness of the wood, it pooled slightly in places and none touched other places. But my takeaway is this works great on new pine, be quick and use a quality brush. I also tried it on a very old plywood pullout shelf. I prepped the wood according to the instructions. I bleached and washed it. Allowed it to dry. After 2 coats there was almost no change in the wood so I am going to stain or paint those. This couldn't be easier to use. Cleanup is a snap, there is no odor to contend with and a little goes a long way. I like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This works great on bare wood!
Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2019
If you follow the instructions, you should get a weathered look typical for the color and type of wood used. I lightly sanded bare wood panels and stirred up the accelerator before applying it, per the instructions. (Even the wooden stirring stick ended up with a beautiful weathered look.) When I applied it, the wood looked a little darker due to being wet. Then as it begun to dry, I could see the wood start to transform to a weathered look. After half an hour, I applied a second coat. If you apply it and it is only looking a bit different from what you started with, try another coat. It made a big difference for me. I tried it on 3 types of wood as shown in the photos. One picture is the front of the wood and the other side is the one with the weathered wood accelerator applied.

I believe many people who are saying it made their wood have a blue or purple tone are applying to wood that has a stain or sealer on it. The wood has to be bare and untreated to absorb it, just as advertised. I did test it on some wood that had some white stain on it and it did look purple-blue because it could not absorb into the wood. I am happy with this product and glad I used it to give my wood wall panels a more aged look

1.0 out of 5 stars Stained our wood PURPLE
Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2023
This stain turned our trim purple. We attempted a second coat and it only made it worse. We attempted a different stain for a 2nd coat and the wood looked like it was painted black. All of our new trim was ruined.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wear gloves!
Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2022
It is definitely a stain in that your hands (or anything else it touches) will be purple! I used it on sanded fence boards to get the effect shown in the pics. It is very watery & wanted to bead up on the treated wood but i used a cloth to really work it into the wood & was thinking it wasn’t doing anything & then suddenly it changed! Pretty cool stuff and unlike stain, no matter where you stop/start it all blends perfectly!
I have used the aged wood by varathane & i like that one better since it’s washable. If you get this on your hands it will definitely stain! I look like I’ve been playing in blueberries or blackberries! Lol
Good stuff, still. & I like the barn wood look it gives.

Updating my review after i opened it few days later on purchase for actual use on my furniture it has all fungus over it and when I brushed it off on teak wood no grey stain ...simply as if brushed water. NOW THE RETURN time has expired I regret spending my money ..highly disappointed...
Initial review
Expected this stain to be a little deep in shade as I saw on YouTube the stain was more dark grey. ALSO RECEIVED A leaking bottle and seems like not original packing .But have kept it as I was not getting this stain anywhere in India.
