If the material is too damaged to be used again, it is aggregated for recycling.

I have this set in 5 different colors. The unbleached color and colored ones for guests. The dark coral color is classy looking in my opinion, turquoise and and the navy are my second and third. I have had the two towels I ordered for about 5 weeks. Both of them have threads that have come out and made loops. For such expensive towels, they are definitely not very durable! I would not recommend purchasing them. I wanted to make an environmental difference, since cotton farming and manufacturing is so damaging to the environment, but if the towels won't last as long as normal towels, the environmental impact is not going to be less than purchasing more durable towels that are manufactured in a less sustainable manner.
