Recommended purchase. Great design, clear and crisp sound, strong microphone
This review is free of bias. I researched and purchased these on my own. I was not paid, did not receive anything for free, no coupon codes, and was not lead to them by an external link.I was specifically looking for Bluetooth headphones with ear loops as I have always had issues with headphones staying lodged in my ears when working outside or being active. For the average consumer, paying more then $100 for earphones is a ripoff unless you just have an elevated passion for listening devices. For the rest of us the differences in sound quality for items between the $40 - $100 range are likely very small. So the focus then becomes on the utility of the device. Here are my thoughts after a couple weeks of wearing them every day:Sound - I'm not an audiophile but I do like to listen to music, podcasts, and audiobooks, and I know the difference between something sounding "tinny" to something sounding like it's being played through my 1977 Marantz stereo unit. These aren't brilliant, but they are above decent and vocals and instruments are crisp and clear. You can control the bass boost which definitely is noticeable. I also like that you can control the volume (tapping the Right one for volume up, and the Left one for volume down). The volume is also independent of the volume on my phone...which I LOVE.Microphone - I didn't make enough calls to really evaluate the quality of the mics, but those on the other end could hear me cleanly without background noise, even with ~ 15 mph wind blowing across my face.Connectivity - connecting to BT is simple as they try to do it automatically and it happens very quickly as soon as they are pulled out of the housing unit. However that can be both good and bad. Good if you are only ever connecting to one device, and bad if you have multiple devices and forgetting which one it's connecting to (personal cell, work cell, tablet, PC) as it can only connect to one device at a time. This seems to be fairly standard but would be ideal if they could connect to at least two different devices. You connect the Right earbud only, and the Left will then sync with the Right. If you only want to use a single earbud you can select either the Left or the Right to connect with your device. Actually, since both earbuds can connect separately, you might be able to connect the Left to one device and connect the Right to a different device. Regardless of how you use them, I appreciate the ability to adjust them in your ears without them disconnecting from the audio.Housing unit/charging case - It's bulkier then those used with straight earbuds because it has to account for the earloops, which doubles the required size. Whenever you put the them back into the case, the front has 4 tiny LED lights that reveal how much battery is left. The cases charges via a USB-C cable (a short one is included) and when plugged in the lights blink to indicate it is charging based on how full the battery is (25% charge = 1 static light & 3 blinking lights, 50% charge = 2 static lights & 2 blinking lights, etc). The earbuds themselves also have LED lights indicating charging or in pairing mode. The lid is hinged and has a powerful spring that snaps the lid closed if not fully opened. It's easy enough to open, but the spring tension is strong enough to keep if from opening up and staying open accidently if bouncing around inside a bag or backpack. The earphones themselves fit very snuggly in the case as well as being secured by magnets...I don't see how they could fall out on their own.Comfort - This is where I removed 1 star, and this is a personal thing for me that others may not experience. My ears are crazy sensitive and I've struggled to find headphones/earphones which I can wear for extended periods without discomfort. My ears also sweat (gross I know) and earbuds that might normally be comfortable simply pop out unexpectedly...usually when I'm carrying something and can't reach up to re-secure them. Obviously there are others who experience the same way and thus engineers have designed the over ear loops for us who would otherwise be denied using true wireless earbuds. These fit snuggly and comfortably, and the loop holds them in place really well. Maybe too well. The loop is flexible enough to fasten over your ear, but at the same time so rigid they force the earbud into my ear hard enough that the pressure can become too much. Bottom line is these will stay in place no matter your activity. They are VERY secure and I would be comfortable wearing them doing water sports or fishing. But for me, after about an hour I have found the need to continually readjust as the pressure they created becomes a challenge. With that said, I plan to keep these and just hope my ears can become used to them.Noise Cancellation - Anything that you can cram in your earhole provides noise cancellation, and these are no different. I suppose the only advantage to Active Noise Cancellation is that you can open up the external mic to allow ambient sound to come in. So when my wife is trying to talk to me I can adjust the ANC instead of pulling the earpiece out. However my experience is it is easier to simply pull the earphone out part way and then reinserting it later. ANC on other headphones were annoying to and didn't always work. If you want earphones that block out external noises, these work perfectly for that. Paying for ANC is a huge waste of money unless you need the passthrough feature for work or safety. ANC also wrecks the battery life.Touch features - The sensors are pretty sensitive and light touch on the logo is all that is needed to access the features. It's not so light to have accidental triggers, and your finger needs to be in the right place, but I have found the controls to be very responsive. Please note that BOTH earphones would have to be inserted and synced to use all the features. Right one controls volume up, skip forward, answer/reject call, and power on/off. Left one controls volume down, skip backwards, voice commands (I have not used this feature yet so can't comment on it), and power on/off (yes, they power on/off independently).

5.0 out of 5 stars Purchased for Summer Electric Bike Commute...
Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2022
I currently have wireless earbuds I've used for several years which work well, but are starting to show there age a bit. I plan to still use them in the winter, as they slip into the ear well enough to comfortably have a headband around my ears for warmth and also for help with wind noise.

I purchased these Back Bay's because during the summer, I'd rather do without the headband if at all possible (although I do have a summer version), but didn't want to risk having my old earbuds fall out while I'm zipping around at 20 mph. The Back Bay's had a nice wrap around function that didn't appear to pose a discomfort level associated with wearing some sort of ear covering over them, so I gave them a shot.

First off, they are a nice, solid set of ear phones. The case is about the size of credit card (see pics), with a height similar to a PC mouse. It's a nice size case and charging is a breeze... although I will say that unlike most of my other USB rechargeable items, this case has a different connector and is not compatible with the other cords I have... so there's that.

At first it was a little weird not having any actual buttons to depress like my old set of ear buds, but now I'm quite used to it and like the "tap" functionality of all the various settings and options.

The sound is hard to complain about, seriously... they are quite nice. I listen to podcasts mostly, so the few times I've had music on and utilized the Bass Mode was quite the treat. I'm sure there will be many music lovers out there who will explore and enjoy this function more than I have at this point.

As I mentioned earlier, I purchased these for my daily one-hour electric bike commute to work (1/2 hour each way) during the summer. I especially require as good as noise cancellation as I can get, because the wind can be quite the deterrent from a otherwise pleasant experience when your on a bike, in the city, with all the wind and traffic noise. On a scale of 1-10 on my bike, I would say they are about a 7... whereas my old ones are more like a 8-9. I think that's because my older buds can get down more solidly into the ear (not sure that's actually better for you or not in the long term) than these, due to the ear wrap prohibiting that identical sort of insertion depth. If I wasn't on an electric bike terrorizing the public at 20 mph, and say, just jogging or something... this wouldn't be an issue in the least.

That being said, with being exposed like I am, you're never going to get to 100% noise cancellation, nor should you for any number of safety considerations. But I will say this... even at a 7 rating, I find myself not noticing the wind distortion as I meander my way into work, and enjoy my daily podcast murder addiction immensely... so for me that is a definite win!

Bottom Line, here are my grades and recommendations:
    1. Sound - Excellent
    2. Selection of different sized ear pieces (you'll need to experiment to find your favorite) - Excellent
    3. Comfort - Very Good (I wish the wrap arounds were of a slightly softer material, but that's a minor gripe).
    4. Functions/Controls - Easy to Understand and Learn
    5. Connectivity - No Issues
    6. Battery Life - I use for 1 hour every day, it's been a non-issue.
    7. USB Charge - Easy, but the connector is not similar/interchangeable to many other USB devices.

One last tip: I found the easiest way to put these on is to rotate them clockwise around your ear, almost like your screwing them in. Start the tip of the ear hook just above your ear and rotate clockwise towards the rear, and then down. Works great for me! :)
