    Is This a Knock-off?

    Is This a Knock-off?
I had a Pixel3 XL for the last few years and really liked it. But I wanted the new phone features, especially the new camera and majic erase. By the time I decided which Pixel phone I wanted Google was 'sold out' of Sorta Seafoam. I didn't want black so I ordered this one on Amazon. First of all, buying an unlocked phone and having to order a SIM kit from Google Fi was a much bigger process and pain than just getting the phone from Google with the SIM pre-installed, but that's a first-world problem. But once the SIM was successfully installed I turned the phone on and everything came up in what I thought was Chinese! I had no way of figuring out how to change the language and no search was helpful online. Finally, I thought to take it to my neighbor whose wife is Chinese. She took one look and said this is Japanese language. But she was also able to figure out how to get it to English. So I took my phone and I've used it for the past 10 days. I will agree with reviews here that the phone feels heavy, perhaps even heavier than my previous Pixel XL. But the thing that is causing me the most frustration is the camera. The pictures I have taken are awful! First, I took pictures with a group of girlfriends. I was the only one that did and it turns out the pictures seemed stretched at the edges. The girls sitting at both ends ended up looking like their shoulders were line-backers' and their arms looked huge! Like the pictures Realtors now post of interiors- WAY stretched and distorted. As you can imagine. Not a very popular thing with a bunch of girls. Also the colors were not very vivid and the lighting was really dim and dull. Next, I took pictures in my living room two mornings ago. My husband and I were having coffee. He snapped a photo of our dog on my lap with his new Samsung Galaxy s22 Plus. When she moved over to his lap, I took a picture with this new Google pixel 6 from Amazon. I have posted these two in my review and you can see the difference. His Samsung took a picture that was vivid and bright. The Pixel took a picture that was so dull. I had to wonder if there was something covering the lens! I actually took my phone to the local Best Buy store and compared it with the Pixel 6 displays both the 6A and the 6. Both of those phones displays were bright and vivid and this one is dull as you can see from the sample picture. So this phone is going back and it has eaten up way too much of my time and energy. The display Google phones had the color and light I was expecting. So now I have ordered one of the remaining Google pixel 6 in the only color left which is black, this one from Target which I am assuming will be providing the real product (because to be this bad this phone must be a knock off! And coming from unknown origin in Asia makes you wonder...). If I don't have an extremely better experience with this one, I will return it and move on to a different phone.

I just came from the iphone 13, very happy with my switch! I can address some things I've had issues with to help others on the fence.

Bluetooth audio: Very low, I'm using AirPod Pros. And yes I even went into developer settings to try and fix it. I'll have volume on max and it only sounds like it's half way. Had to download a third party app, max volume booster, to get the quality I want. That being said now it's great, the sound sounds great, it was just too quiet.

Finger print sensor: I can't say I have any qualms with it, especially after having to come from a face scanner that doesn't work well on my skin tone. From having to have a phone scan my face, say it can't read it, and me having to put in a six digit code to unlock my phone to just putting my thumb on my screen for 0.3 seconds I'm more than happy. A light shines on the screen under your thumb, that may annoy some people but not me.

Battery: I appreciate the battery saver and extreme battery saver options. When I went to work my phone was around 60%, I work a 12 hour shift with minimal use on the phone itself but I check for messages and browse Twitter on my breaks. I turned on extreme power save after I hit 20%. After a few hours and my shift ended I had around 11%. Take that for what you will, it's not so bad but I think I'll bring a power bank with me just in case or keep a charger in my car for when I can't reach 100% charge before work.

I love the layout, the one UI, the little touches like how an animation plays when I plug my phone in and the swipe left or right on your phone to go back to a previous page. This may be biased as I came from an Apple product and not an Android one, so my praises may not be anything special to the seasoned Android user. But for 600$, I got a phone at a decent weight with a beautiful display and access to all my apps.

This will for sure be my main phone for years that's for sure, or maybe until a pixel 7 comes out whichever comes first.

Pros: The camera is one of the best on the market and consistently delivers very nice photos, sometimes amazing photos. If getting high quality photos with your cell phone is important to you, that is the primary reason to own this phone. Since it is made by Google, it offers top of the line support for all Google products and apps.

Cons: for some inexplicable reason, this phone consumes a lot more battery life with certain apps like Life 360, than other phones. My family was all using that app and my phone was just getting crazy battery drain compared to all the other phones using that app. So I had to actually stop using that app with this phone. I will say that when playing games and using most normal apps the battery life is fine but certain apps can drain the battery in a bad way. So you have to be careful and keep an eye on battery usage. If you notice your battery is going low and see if certain apps might be the culprit.
Another con is that this phone actually can get really hot when you're taking video or doing other things like heavy GPS use with some apps like Waze it heats up also. The heat up when taking video is so bad that you really don't want to use it out in the sun when it's over 95° f. Because it could actually get so hot. It warns you it's overheating and it's actually uncomfortable to hold in your hands which is not good for the life of the phone I'm sure. So living in Texas this maybe isn't the best phone if you want to take photos or videos outside during the day in the summer. But if you live in a colder climate, that's probably not an issue.
The on-screen fingerprint reader honestly sucks and normally I just have to renter my pin since it only recognizes my fingerprint less than half the time. I don't use that facial recognition unlock since it's rather insecure.

Battery is great, camera is amazing, but missing a few key features such as changing image and video quality, there is different modes to use the different qualities though. When I read the camera had 1080 240 fps I was intrigued, then I try to use it but it's only available for slo motion mode (which is very cool actually). In my pictures that I added one is of the sky I took today on my way back from work (through a window) and the other two are using Night Mode (one before and one after turning it on). The purple beam you can see is the result of me taking the photo through a window, it isn't normally visible so don't worry. But as you can see the Night Mode is INSANE. I could barely see anything outside (it was 10pm!), taking a Night Mode picture takes about 2 seconds and you have to keep the phone still but it's absolutely bonkers. I showed my parents and they were shocked! It doesn't use a flash either, I believe it uses that purple laser which is usually invisible except when a window is right in front of the camera. This feature is great for night photos and particularly useful for taking pictures of wild animals at night without spooking them with a flash, or disturbing anyone nearby. It's better than using a flash, and it's not noticable at all. The camera alone makes this phone worth it, all other features are a bonus.

Edit: I've had this phone for over a year now and it's still great, still getting camera updates too. I have plenty of storage left and everything runs very smoothly. I have no reason to get a new phone any time soon, so if I do it'll be when the 8 comes out I guess.

Amazing camera, great battery, fast processing power, quick controls aren't very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Great
Reviewed in India on January 27, 2022
Size: 256 GBStyle: PhoneColor: Stormy BlackVerified Purchase
I am writing this review after 1 week of usage and I hope I don't have to change it in the future.

The phone is just great, for the ones who are thinking of buying Pixel 6 or even Pixel 6 Pro, they know what they are looking at, even though it is expensive here in India due to all import charges.

As for the phone, I haven't faced any issue regarding the software or hardware side as I heard that the December software update was not good so after 1st boot, I updated the software to the latest one so till now, I haven't encountered any issues. I will suggest that before doing a software update in future first read the reviews of that update and than update.

I am not writing about camera or software stuff as you all know what Pixel 6 is famous for. As for the battery life, I was getting almost 1.5 days (take it as 30 - 33 hrs) easily as I am not a power user. For the power user, I think the battery will last for 1 day (not sure though). The speakers are really great and loud, I haven't heard any other phone speakers around this price range so I can't tell you guys how they sound compared to other phones, but for me personally, it is great.

The buttons are very clicky and will not get pressed easily. The placement of the power button and volume buttons are odd, normally the power button is below the volume buttons but in this case, it's reverse, it is not a deal-breaker and I got used to it in 3 to 4 days.

As for the camera bump, I don't mind it personally. Even though many are talking about it - it's not great, the phone is unbalanced and many other things, trust me it's not a big deal.

The phone is really slippery so you have to get a case otherwise it will slip from your hand and if you put your phone inside your pant it will definitely slip from there when you sit. I went for the dbrand Grip Case along with skin, if you can afford it then you should really get one, it's really great and fits perfectly. As for the screen protector I haven't found a correct one because the ones officially stated by google are not available in India. I did look for other ones but in reviews, they said after applying those the fingerprint doesn't work so till now I haven't applied any screen protector.

As for the charger I had to buy the official google charger from Flipkart (why official charger, keep reading). I came from OnePlus 3T to Pixel 6 so I had the OnePlus 30W Dash charger and I thought it will work with Pixel 6 since the voltage and amps are almost identical to the official google pixel charger, but when I connected it, the phone displayed it is connected to the charger but not charging, I tried with other low watt chargers, even a Samsung one, the result was same. I had to charge the phone via USB through my laptop and it was really slow. After this, I searched which charger is compatible with Pixel 6, only 3 compatible chargers are available in India from companies - Anker (a few models in this), Samsung (Travel Adapter), Belkin. Even after finding all this, I had my doubts about all these chargers except Samsung Travel Adapter because they all are imported and had a 100V - 120V rating (many people did say it works in India in reviews, I was still not satisfied). So I contacted google Pixel support regarding which charger should I use with this since the new Google charger is not launched in India, the support person gave the link of the official charger launched in India on Flipkart with 100V - 240V and it supports all Pixel devices with 18W fast charging. It goes with the name like - "Google G1000-IN 18 W". Also I think that any power adaptor with Power delivery port will do the job as I didn't had any, and all the compatible chargers for this phone have Power delivery port.

I did buy a different Type C to C cable which is a 2m braided cable from Amazon of a company named SYNQE, it works well with the google charger and it supports fast charging also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pixel 6 is not bad as most of the reviews say

The Internet is flooded with how bad this phone is, overheating issues, stuttering issues, pink tint on the screen, connectivity issues, battery issues and what not. I came across numerous videos, posts and articles about how Google pixel 6 is an okayish device and buy only at your risk and if you are a die hard Google fan.

I am a fan of Google but not die hard. Still believes iPhones are at their peak of their hardware software optimisation and battery backup along with their excellent camera, but that's why the higher price. Justified.

The pixel 6, didn't get launched in my country officially but can be purchased online with no further support once you buy it. Pixel 7 was costly for me and pixel 6a 60hz is something I am not okay with (others might be okay with it, I wasn't so please no offense) and both were launched officially in my country, not pixel 6 and 6 pro

      Day 1

I took a leap of faith and bought pixel 6. Got it on 16th October (5 days back) and initial impressions were good. Updated the system and patches, restored my account and all but the first day was horrible. Poor connectivity, it was getting very warm, very quick. Scrolling in the application drawer was not smooth either. Day 1 SOT was 3 hours. I felt people were right, Google made a mistake and that's why pixel 7 is getting all the praise (it must be a great phone though).

      Day 2

I decided to return it within the windows of the 7 days i have but things started to get better on the 2nd day. The most noticeable difference was the reduced temperature when I held the phone. Everything else was the same more or less. The connectivity issue was still there. The apps were not loading on WiFi but working fine on mobile data. Sometimes the mobile data became useless and i had to go to the WiFi area.

      Day 3

First time I noticed the battery is getting better too. I cancelled my return request and decided to wait till the last day of my return window. The battery SOT was 5 hours at this point. The phone started to feel a bit smoother. Connectivity got better too. I was able to switch from WiFi to mobile data more seamlessly. I don't know how it happened.

      Day 4

Battery SOT reached 6 hours, minimal heating and phone felt very stable. I figured out the things are falling into their places.

      Day 5

Today is the 5th day and i am typing this post on my Pixel 6. Battery SOT is 7.5-8 hours. The phone is buttery smooth now. Idle battery drain is still on the higher side 17%. No heating or overheating now. Connectivity is absolutely fine now and i live in an area where mobile data signals have moderate strength, not excellent (checked with iPhone, samsung and OnePlus - mobile signal strength is moderate) but i am able to recieve any call, anytime. I send text and get the delivery reports in 2-3 seconds after sending the text. The apps which were not working fine on WiFi on day 2 are working fine at all. And I must say, it's a very good phone, If not a great one. Not going to return it, and will keep it for the next 4 years at least.

TLDR: Pixel 6 is a great device,it just needs more time to adapt everything. Not a phone you can take out of the box and expect it to perform the way it should. Give it a week before you make any decisions.

Thanks, I don't see positive posts about pixel 6 very often, hence this honest experience.
