Product Description
A snare crack. An arpeggiated chord. A powerful saxophone solo. Whether on stage or in the studio, the notes that flow from your instrument connects your audience on a visceral level. And such sounds need a mic that can handle its strength. For every acoustic condition, the SM57 delivers the power of your playing to every fan in the house. What is the SM57 best suited to? It’s the most popular choice for a professional musician who wants to mic up their amplified or acoustic instrument such as a guitar amp or bass amp, saxophone, trumpet or drums. It is used on stages and in studios around the world. How does it sound? The contoured frequency response with its presence rise, helps the instrument cut better through the main mix. The extremely effective cardioid pickup pattern isolates the main sound source and will simply record what you point at it while rejecting sound from the rear.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2023Style: SM57Verified PurchaseI bought this mic mostly for streaming, but it's a fantastic general purpose desk microphone as well- with some caveats. Let me preface all of these caveats by saying that the sound quality you can get out of this mic completely overshadows any of the measures I had to take to do so, and it's now my *only* microphone.
1. You need to be close to the mic in order to get good sound and simultaneously good background noise rejection, and some people might find having a mic this close to their face disagreeable. This is not unique, however, to the SM57; it's a pretty standard caveat of these types of mics.
2. You will need an audio interface and very probably a preamp to get the most out of it. Personally, I've got it hooked up to a Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen, and that's been doing absolutely fantastic, although you do need to crank the gain all the way up it seems in order to get strong enough signal. I have been told that a preamp would help, and I intend to get my hands on one sooner or later to make the most of this mic.
Finding good mics is hard especially in the $75-200 range as there is a lot of abject garbage masquerading as "professional grade". This makes things a lot simpler; the SM57 is one of the most widely used microphones in music and broadcasting for a reason: value and functionality. You can buy better microphones, but not without a dramatic jump in price. I'll be hanging on to this mic for as long as I can, and based on the apparent build quality, that may very well be forever, barring exceptional acts of foolishness on my behalf.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2024Style: SM57Verified PurchaseI’ve had my Shure SM57 for a while now, and I’ve got to say, this mic is like the Swiss Army knife of the audio world. It’s been through a lot with me—live gigs, studio sessions, and even some impromptu jam sessions in the garage. Honestly, if this mic could talk, I’m sure it would have some wild stories to tell.
First off, the build quality is rock solid. I’ve dropped it, knocked it, and generally put it through its paces, and it just keeps on going. It feels like it’s made out of some indestructible alloy that laughs in the face of accidents. And the sound quality? Oh boy, it’s impressive. The SM57 captures instruments with such clarity and detail—it’s like it has a built-in magic filter that makes everything sound just right.
It’s versatile too. Whether I’m miking up a snare drum or an electric guitar amp, the SM57 delivers every time. The dynamic range is fantastic, and it handles high volumes without distorting. It’s like having a reliable friend who always knows what to do, no matter the situation.
One thing to keep in mind is that it’s not the fanciest mic out there, but for the price, it’s an absolute steal. It doesn’t need phantom power, which is a nice plus. If you’re looking for a mic that gets the job done without fuss, the SM57 is your go-to.
In summary, the Shure SM57 is a classic for a reason. It’s tough, reliable, and always delivers top-notch sound. If you don’t have one in your collection yet, do yourself a favor and grab one—you won’t regret it!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2025Style: SM57Verified PurchaseThe sound quality is very good. Works well in the office and less heavy than SM7B, which is convenient in many applications. Most noise is not picked up, which is important. You can talk a little farther away than the SM7B.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2025Style: SM57Verified PurchaseAnything I say would probably fall short of how great this microphone is and how reasonably priced it is for small churches with smaller budgets. We have this on drums, amplifiers, and use it for training vocalists. Such a reliable and excellent microphone.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2025Style: SM57Verified PurchaseIt's a good mic for all uses. Great sound quality. I have a sure mic that I love but I could get by with just this mic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice little mic
Style: SM57Verified PurchaseDepending on how you use it i found it needs some sort of boost, ie, compression or some sort of gain which i have. The clarity of this mic is lmpressive. Well worth the price, ive always prefered a shure mic, and tis one is no exception.
