Q: Is this compatible with a 5g network? Does it have the ability to pan left/right and up/down?

submitted by CityGal99 - 3 years ago
  • A: Nest Cam (indoor, wired) needs to be connected to your home's Wi-Fi network. 5G mobile network isn't recommended and might cause connectivity issues. Also, the camera can’t be moved remotely using the app. If you want to change the camera’s view, you have to adjust the camera’s position by hand. You can use the Home app to check the camera’s view so you can adjust the position from the mounting magnet if you need to.

It worked great initially - easy set up and great video quality, although I'm not a fan of the app. One day it randomly disconnected and now we can't connect it at all even after hard resets and spending hours on the phone with Google support. They told me I now have to try contacting my internet provider to change something with my WiFi settings. It shouldn't be this difficult to connect to an app...

The camera is awesome for indoor use, looks great, very accurate notifications but for outdoor use it not very clear. I will be returning it since I wanted it for outdoor.
1 reply from Nest Support team - 2 years ago
Hello there, Merida. We’re glad that you find the Nest Cam (indoor, wired) good for indoor use. We hear your concerns about using the camera outdoors. However, indoor cameras are designed for inside use only. While you can point an indoor camera out a window to view what’s happening outside, this can impact your camera’s video quality or Night Vision. The window glass can create reflections, and your view is limited by the size and location of the window. If you want to record an outdoor space, install one of our outdoor cameras to get the best quality video. They are designed to work outside and withstand the elements. I have the first generation nest cams and they are wonderful with the nest app. However, the second generation cameras will not connect to the nest app and you have to use the Google home. I've tried multiple locations, phones, and followed every troubleshooting step and it absolutely will not connect to the app. This camera is completely useless.

Bright pink corrupted video -- unusable

1 out of 5 stars

RawwrBag - 2 years ago
The image quality degrades and becomes bright pink after the camera has been powered on for 12-24 hours. Support claimed it was overheating, but it's in a north-facing Window that never gets sun at any time during the day. It's indoors at 69F and 45% humidity. Replaced the camera and same issue with the new unit. Never had this problem with other products used in the same location. Will return it and try something else.
1 reply from Nest Support team - 2 years ago
Hey RawwrBag, thanks for leaving feedback about the Nest Cam (indoor, wired), and we’re sorry to learn you ran into an issue with the image quality. if your camera or doorbell’s video looks bad, but it has a good Wi-Fi connectionand is not exposed to direct sunlight, this can happen if your camera gets too hot or too cold, and can be avoided by these: - Avoid placing your camera near objects that can cause overheating like light bulbs, lamps, large equipment/appliances, air vents, etc. Your camera needs good air circulation. Never install it in any kind of small box or enclosure as this can cause overheating. - Your doorbell/camera's video might also have a pink, blue or purple hue if there's a problem with the Night vision. Visit the Google Nest Help center to learn more about the night vision video quality We’ll be using your feedback to work on improving how we handle customer concerns with care and efficiency. Meanwhile, we’re hoping for another chance to help you with your concern. If you’re willing, please share with us your recent case number at the Google Nest Help page so we can continue our investigation.

More useful than expected

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This has been one of those things that I didn’t know I needed until I had it. Took me a while to set it up after getting it, but will not go without it again and will likely get a few more. Maybe even splurge and get the wireless ones. I originally thought the wired state would be a massive inconvenience, but it wasn’t so bad because the cord is really long. I wouldn’t recommend you use it outside since it could easily be unplugged and carted off. If you use it inside I didn’t find anywhere I couldn’t set it up where I wanted. The set up was really easy and the picture is very good. Even the night vision is pretty decent. I mostly used it to keep up with what was happening in the house when I was away from home. I always felt better knowing I could tell if the cats were ok and that the house hadn’t been broken into. I was bummed that I have to subscribe to get the recordings and a longer history, but I never did and still found it to be useful. In short, it is easy to set up, easy to move around despite being wired, and has a very good picture. The bad is having to pay for more features and not being able to use it outside.

I have Nest cameras and had to purchase another, which ended up being a google nest. Worst camera ever. The quality is great, when it works! I have all of my nest cameras set up alongside my Google Nest and the Google constantly loads and then fails. If I close the app and then pull it up, the camera will show for about 2 minutes or so and then loads and fails again. My nest cameras all show perfectly. Won’t be buying any more of these!
1 reply from Nest Support team - 3 years ago
Hi Tasha, thanks for choosing our Google Nest products. We're sorry for the negative experience you had with the connectivity issue between the Google Home app and your Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired). Here are some recommended steps to help you with the issue: - Nest cameras typically require between 0.8 Mbps to 4.0 Mbps per device to upload properly, depending on the video quality setting you selected. You may also check for possible congestion in your Wi-Fi network. Removing some of your connected devices can help free up some bandwidth space. You may then check to see if you will still experience the same connectivity issue. Should you verify congestion, we recommend contacting your Internet service provider to test and check your connection, and possibly upgrade it if needed. - You may also check for possible sources of interference such as the thick walls and appliances in your home. If you encounter any further issue, please consider contacting our support team for further troubleshooting and isolation via the Google Nest help page.

Limited use

Jen P - 3 years ago, Verified purchaser
I bought this camera to face out my back patio door for night security, but it is useless for this type of usage. It cannot be used facing outside after dark. I wish it had mentioned in the description that it was for indoor-facing use only. It is a very good camera for indoor security, and very simple to set up. If you have older Nest cameras, they will most likely have to be transfered to the new app if you want all of your cameras on one system. Not ideal but it does help you with this process.
1 reply from Nest Support team - 3 years ago
Hi Jen P, we really appreciate your feedback on Nest Cam (Indoor, Wired), and we’re sorry to learn that your experience has been less than ideal. Indoor cameras are designed for inside use only. While you can point an indoor camera out a window to view what’s happening outside, this might affect your video quality. and can impact your camera’s video quality or Night Vision. For example, the window glass can create reflections, and your view is limited by the size and location of the window. If your goal is to record an outdoor space, install one of our outdoor cameras to get the best quality video. They are designed to work outside and withstand the elements. If you prefer to use an indoor camera, here are some tips for pointing it out a window: - Mount the camera so that the lens is flush against the glass to reduce reflections and glare. - Avoid windows that have a mesh screen as they can affect motion detection. We’d be happy to share your feedback with the right team for future improvements with our products and services, including the product descriptions. And for any support concerns, our dedicated team of specialists are available to provide you with assistance at the Google Nest Help page.

Bought this camera like most to use WITH the NEST app, well that was a mistake. Had to add it in Google home instead and the integrations are garbage. You can get people alerts but the camera got knocked down you want to know how? Me too but it doesn't show the footage, it decided it wasn't an event. It doesn't show a calendar like nest, doesn't let me scroll through the recorded footage like nest I can just watch events, and yes I am paying for nest aware. Want to check it on a browser? Oops should have got the nest iq cam. There are just better options now; cheaper cameras without subscriptions, more features, and higher resolution. Avoid this one if you want a good security option.
1 reply from Nest Support team - 3 years ago
Hi Ninj0hn, we highly appreciate your feedback on Nest Cam (indoor, wired), and we’re sorry to learn of your disappointment with the camera’s integration in Google Home app. We’re aware that longtime Nest users enjoy viewing their Nest camera feeds from the Nest app and web app. However, our priority with this launch was building a complete experience for our new cameras and doorbell in the Google Home app. We’re working on a seamless solution to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. Also, using Google Home app provides you with a lot of benefits including access to Google's trusted security platform and access to other Google tools. This means you get a simpler interface and a simpler way to connect all your devices into a single environment. We'll certainly share your feedback with the appropriate team to work on future improvements on our products and the services we offer. Shannon - 3 years ago, Verified purchaser
I currently have two original nest cameras that I use with the nest app. I pay each year to get 3 days saved history on my cameras. I recently purchased another camera to put in my spare bedroom. First of all, I was forced to download a new Google app to use this camera. There is no way to add it to the nest app with my other cameras. Today something important happened and I needed to view that cameras footage, however, on this new camera it showed no history!! I’m so mad. This is getting returned. Target sells another camera for like $30 that’s more useful than this.
1 reply from Nest Support team - 3 years ago
Hi Shannon, thanks for sharing your feedback. We apologize that you’re unable to add the new Nest Cam Indoor in Nest App, and having issues with Nest Aware. If you have a 2nd Gen Nest Aware, all your devices should be covered including your new Nest Cam Indoor. You don’t have to pay an additional subscription. However, if you have a camera with 1st Gen Nest Aware, you couldn’t have a new subscription in the same home structure. 2nd Gen Nest Aware subscription provides more value for your money with its features. Aside from 30 days of Video History and 24/7 continuous recording, you have access to clips and time lapses and even customizing your own activity zones. The best thing about this subscription is that it will include all your Google Nest devices under one subscription unlike before where you have to pay a monthly subscription for each device. We value your feedback as it will greatly help us in improving our products and services.
