I purchased this to spread pre-emergent. It really does a great job. You squeeze the handle to open the trap door and they turn the crank to spread the contents. I found it really easy to use. There is a pull out brace that fits under your arm to help with distributing the weight, which means it doesn't get heavy. My only criticism is that the crank is for right handed users. Fortunately, I am right handed, but even so, it would have been nice to switch hands, but that is not possible.

I liked the way the spreader makes it easy to get even distribution over a large area. I have used it for both fertilizers and grass seed and like the way you can adjust distribution rate.

The only downside is that it is difficult to restrict coverage to a defined area. You would need to be careful if you did not want a lawn treatment going over a nearby flower border etc.
