Frequently Asked Questions

1. How can I import my documents onto Kindle Scribe?

Use Send to Kindle to import documents from your desktop web browser, the Kindle app, or even directly from Microsoft Word (Microsoft 365 subscription required). Supported file types that you can import this way include PDF, DOCX, eBooks in EPUB format, as well as other common document formats like JPG, PNG, HTML, and TXT. Learn more about sending documents.

2. Can I view my notes on other Kindle surfaces?

You can view your Kindle Scribe notebooks through the Kindle app for iOS and Android. To access them, go to the “More” tab in the app and select “Notebooks” to view all the notebooks created on your Kindle Scribe. Additionally, you can view any highlights or sticky notes you made in books; however, you can't view underlines or Active Canvas notes.

3. How do I use the AI notebook tools?

To summarize, open a notebook, tap the AI icon, and select “Summarize”. Choose up to 15 pages (or specific pages from Bird's Eye View) to extract key takeaways, saving time in reviewing your notes.

For writing refinement, tap the AI icon and choose “Refine Writing”. Select up to 10 pages to convert your handwriting into a polished, script-like font. This works best for narrative-style notes, to-do lists, or nested lists, but may not be as effective for non-linear layouts like calendars or planners.

Both tools may need time to sync new notebooks. For a faster experience, tap “Sync” to manually sync your notes before using AI tools. You can customize the font style, size, and spacing of the output. Results are inserted into your notebook using a blank page template for a clean, organized presentation. AI notebook tools are supported for the English language and are available in the US.

Amazing but Expensive
4 out of 5 stars
Amazing but Expensive
The device is definitely an upgrade from the Paperwhite as it has many more features. The screen size is fantastic and the lightweight and sturdy build make it feel like it's a high quality device. I must admit, however, that it's difficult to hold for a long time without a case, it just doesn't have a book feeling and over time it's awkward. So a case is a must. The case that Amazon makes is expensive but it's worth it as it allows for the device to stand in portrait and landscape modes at an angle that is perfect for reading. The ability to takes notes is great BUT you don't actually mark up in your book, you do so in a margin and / or in a separate space that is essentially an inserted text box. So circling words, comments, etc are not really possible the way I normally make notes in a book. The ability to draw is nice, but it lacks drawing tools like smudge, which would be awesome for real sketching as it does feel good to write on. The tips to the premium pen wear down quickly, not sure why that is but I've gone through two in just two weeks. What I don't like: for the price it only has 64GB of storage, is still monochrome, doesn't have a speaker, and web browsing and apps like ChatGPT are not possible to run on it. So, I have a Samsung Tab and it's full color, super fast, can have attached storage, runs other apps, and the Kindle app on it is amazing as it is fully color and can do so much more, with better controls and quicker response. But alas, it is not a friend to a digitally distracted person, and I do find myself using it to surf the web, check email, create spreadsheets, book trips, communicate with workers, access my corporate internal sites, write notes, make drawings, and that's when I was supposed to be reading! Well, the final word...I'm glad I bought it and that I have it, but it's a luxury item and I recognize that I'm lucky to have it. I wouldn't trade my tablet for it, but I do find it a great device because of the size, weight, build, and ability to sketch notes with AI integrated summaries built in. Should you buy it? If you have $500 to spare, sure. Honestly though, keep reading on your current device until the price comes down from the stratosphere.

Very pleased with my purchase, 2024 edition, 64GB with premium pen. I also purchased a cover to protect it; the cover is slim and just large enough for the Scribe with the pen beside it, save it its carrying slot.

Writing is a joy! The screen has just enough drag so that it doesn't feel like glass; very close to a paper feel. Very little pressure is required, and there are a variety of writing tips and widths. Reading Kindle books is easy on the eyes, and the size of the scribe is an easy to hang on to, middle size between a phone and full-size tablet or laptop screen.

There is a touch of lag, especially when erasing or "undo"ing things. I have some Kindle titles with color panels that can't display in color, of course, but they are still clear. Page transitions are quick and smooth, both with the notebooks and Kindle titles. Adding notebook pages take a couple taps. The more I learn about it, the better I like it!

Chose the Scribe because it combined my desire for paperless notes and journaling with a LOT of Kindle-format reference material and leisure reading. Great price point and does things the competition can't do natively.

I really like this product. I use it every single day at work and I use it frequently at home too. It replaced a physical planner for me which is great because you have to buy a new one every year. I use the notebooks heavily and found routines that work for me. Creating custom templates using the AI refine writing feature has been great. I do wish it had different notebook templates or a way to add your own custom ones. I also wish you could copy your notebooks easier (you can use the lasso tool, which I do, but sometimes it’s time consuming)

Being able to send and share annotated PDFs has been great, the process is smooth and easy. Something about writing on a text PDF is so cool. My one complaint is that I wish PDFs weren’t relegated solely to the library section and could be moved to the notebook section if desired.

I ended up being a touch disappointed with the special button on the pen, you can only choose between a couple of functions to assign to it and you must hold the button down to use the feature. I end up always clicking the button because of the way I hold a pen so that’s kind of annoying. The eraser is nice though.

I like the library portion and reading on it is great. There is a back lit screen that can be adjusted and the page size is good. I do find that I accidentally swipe backwards in my books a lot so that’s mildly annoying too. I also wish you could customize the “collections” the books are in, just something about it is not great. Other than that reading from it is very nice. I would highly recommend a case that can fold into a stand though, it makes draping it over your knee or propping up much more pleasant.

Finally I’ve had a blast drawing with it. The pencil function is pretty good and you can come up with some cool stuff!

Over all I’ve been using my scribe daily for the past three months. I really like it.

I originally purchased the Remarkable Pro, but after using it for about a week, I experienced pixel issues and had to return it. Unfortunately, the customer service support was disappointing during the whole returning process. That’s when I discovered the Kindle Scribe, and I decided to give it a try. Despite being smaller than the Remarkable Pro, I immediately felt it was the perfect size for me.

    1) The writing experience on the Kindle Scribe is incredibly smooth and soft, unlike the Remarkable Pro, where writing produces a tapping noise and feels harder.

2)The Kindle Scribe offers a much softer, quieter experience that feels natural and enjoyable. The reading experience is also absolutely amazing. As someone who reads a lot of ebooks related to my field, the Kindle Scribe has been a game-changer. The display quality is excellent, and the lighting options are far superior to the Remarkable Pro, with a great variety of adjustments to suit different environments.

3)Another major factor is cost—I got the Kindle Scribe for nearly $300 less than the Remarkable Pro, and I pre-ordered it two months ago. The value it offers for the price is outstanding.

4)On top of that, Amazon’s customer service is exceptional, far better than what I experienced with Remarkable.

5)When I first got the Remarkable Pro, my reaction was, “That’s it?” It didn’t wow me, and after just two days of use, I found myself wanting to return it. I kept using it out of necessity, but when the pixel problems occurred, I finally returned it without hesitation. On the other hand, my first impression of the Kindle Scribe was pure excitement—it felt amazing right from the start. Writing on it feels soft and effortless, and reading is an absolute pleasure. It’s a truly versatile and well-designed device.

I am so grateful to Amazon for creating this amazing tool. It has completely elevated both my reading and writing experiences. If you’re considering a Remarkable Pro, I would strongly recommend trying the Kindle Scribe instead.

Returning remarkable pro and Loving Amazing Kindle Scribe

Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2024
I originally purchased the Remarkable Pro, but after using it for about a week, I experienced pixel issues and had to return it. Unfortunately, the customer service support was disappointing during the whole returning process. That’s when I discovered the Kindle Scribe, and I decided to give it a try. Despite being smaller than the Remarkable Pro, I immediately felt it was the perfect size for me.

    1) The writing experience on the Kindle Scribe is incredibly smooth and soft, unlike the Remarkable Pro, where writing produces a tapping noise and feels harder.
