Set the mood by customizing your own dynamic color palettes or choose between animations and serene color melts to add excitement to any occasion.

    • Is there a difference between mounting the camera above or placing it below the screen?

While both placements provide a great screen mirroring experience, sometimes mounting the camera above your screen can slightly improve color accuracy. If the camera is placed below the screen, make sure it is not in a high traffic area.

    • How should I set up Nanoleaf 4D for the best experience?

      1. Turn off ambient lighting before calibration

      2. If camera is mounted on top, tilt to a lower angle so that it can see the whole screen

      3. Turn ON your TV while calibrating

      4. Move all calibration points slightly closer towards middle of screen

    • What is Sync+?

Sync+ is a feature that allows you to virtually connect all Nanoleaf RGB lights* in the same space so that you can extend screen mirroring lighting effects across them based on their relative positioning.

    • Does the camera record any video footage?

The 4D camera does not record, save, or store anything onto the device, the cloud, your phone, or anywhere else. It is simply used to feed color data to your lights to create the mirroring effect in real-time.

    • Can I cut the addressable Lightstrip?

Yes, but make sure you cut the loose end of the Lightstrip that is NOT connected to the power cable. Trimming the lightstrip will help optimize the screen mirroring experience. Lighting effects will automatically remap to the trimmed length.

    The Nanoleaf 4D work great
The reason for the 4 stars was not because it didn’t perform, I had recently purchased the Govee backlight 3 lite and was very disappointed with the lights. I couldn’t get the camera to calibrate. But too the Nanoleaf 4D, they are a great addition to my TV watching experience. I only wish that Nanoleaf would add a stronger adhesive on the back of the light strip. But with the other reviews in Amazon and YouTube I purchased some 3M adhesive and it worked great. The light strip are very great quality and now I want more Nanoleaf products. Would definitely recommend these lights strips but buy some 3M double sided tape and you would be ok.

I recently moved into a new place and decided that I wanted to upgrade my entertainment setup for the monthly movie marathons I host. I’m not exactly a techy person, so I looked for some inspiration on Pinterest and found a whole bunch of photos of Nanoleaf products. I was interested in the wall mounted lights but I have my TV in an entertainment centre so there’s not much space around it, so I browsed their other products and thought that Nanoleaf 4D looked perfect – and it is. Personally, I’m really happy with this product. I found it easy enough to set up and install – I get easily flustered and frustrated when it comes to cables and connectors, but I didn’t have any trouble with installing everything and I liked that I was able to trim the light strip to make it fit my TV perfectly. One thing I will note is that I use a lot of command strips and double-sided tape for things around my apartment, so based on prior experience I made sure to wipe down the back of my TV with a microfiber towel with a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol on it to clean the surface and ensure a good bond for the corner bracket and light strip tape and I haven’t noticed any issues with peeling yet. As for as the experience after setting it up, I really love how the Nanoleaf lights look and it has been an absolute game changer for my movie nights. When I was first considering putting LED lights behind my TV, I was worried that it would look like a laser light show (especially considering my entertainment centre is white and slightly reflective), but it has been the exact opposite. These lights are bright enough that the backlighting spills out into the room, but not so bright that it takes attention away from the screen. I love that I can turn off all the lights in my apartment and the lights provide the perfect amount of ambient lighting to significantly reduce eye strain and allow my guests and I to still see each other and the snack table. The lighting is also just stunning visually, the screen mirroring feature works great and makes this cool 4D effect which, paired with my new speakers, creates a really immersive experience and brings the movies to life, it feels like the colors and light from my TV are extending out like an aura behind it. Another thing I really like is that the package comes with a privacy cover. Overall, I think that this product is a winner, even for someone who is not too tech-savvy like me, and it has definitely taken my movie nights to the next level.

The Nanoleaf 4D is a fantastic and affordable TV backlight that really blew me away with its quality and ease of use. If you're like me and prefer skipping the manual to dive right into the simplest settings, this is the perfect choice. It comes with a camera, a controller, and a long strip of light, offering three modes and plenty of settings for those who like to tinker.

I’ve seen some fancy professional backlight setups at friends' houses, but honestly, all I wanted was something that reflects my TV screen and eases my eyes at night—and this does the job perfectly. I was initially worried the camera might lag, but nope, it’s super responsive. I mounted it on a white wall, and the lights are highly visible, especially in a dark room like a basement.

Now, if you plan to install this in a living room next to a window, you might only get the best out of it after sunset. The strip is bright, but not quite bright enough to compete with full sunlight. Setting it up was mostly easy, but I had to hunt down an online tutorial because the button symbols didn’t match the ones in the manual—confusing, but nothing a quick search couldn't fix.

I mostly use it for watching nature documentaries, and it's truly awesome, especially with Netflix's nighttime wildlife series. This backlight really shines (literally) in a dark room, but if you’re planning to use it during the day, you might not be as satisfied. But let’s be real, that’s not just a Nanoleaf problem, right?

The Good: Once activated and if configured properly, the lights work well and enhance the viewing experience of movies and video games. Neat!

The Bad: Activation was a nightmare. It took 3-4 tries, different phones, and a couple hours. It just kept failing, and each step might take up to 5 minutes before timing out or coming up with some error. I just kept trying different phones and even different networks until it finally worked.

The Ugly: During activation, the mobile app asks for my home network credentials so it can connect. Then it immediately tells me to connect to its own open (no security) network. This insecure network stays on indefinitely and the device never migrates off of it. If you want to control the lights, you need to manually connect to this OPEN network. Since this network is isolated to just the Nanoleaf and there is no internet, when the app prompts you to update firmware, it fails because there's no internet on your phone or the device. Open/insecure network and terrible compatibility.

I've started a chat with nanoleaf support and we've been chatting for days. At one point I was waiting 12 days for a response. Officially, I was told to change the settings on my Wifi 6 router to create a separate 2.4GHz network with its own SSID only on channel 11 and then connect to that network whenever I want to control the device.

In 2023, we should expect better from IoT manufacturers and software developers. Separating networks, fixed channels, and open insecure networks are unacceptable solutions. Overall the light is a great product but limited by 2003-era wireless technology in the controller. It should be advertised as a beta device, early release, and cost much less until it is production-ready and performing without bugs and security issues.

Reviewed in Canada on October 14, 2024
Haven’t written a review on Amazon before, and it’s a shame the first is for a complete lack of quality & loss of faith in a once favored brand.

Product adhesives are literally unusable, resulting in messy assembly & the control console falling and breaking just a day after being set up. In the short day that it managed to operate set up, connection issues within the app and IOS home + firmware updates rendered the product inoperable for hours with troubleshooting between my network and the lights themselves futile. When finally operational, the latency the lights had with the camera make the light strips an annoying flashing afterthought when flashes or quick changes in lighting on screen take place. Whilst a reasonable amount of latency was expected, the delay is simply too immense for them to have added to any experiences I could imagine using them for. The console is now rendered inoperable as a result of the terrible adhesives provided, and I am thoroughly disappointed in this product and this brand. I look forward to seeking alternative options.

We cleaned the back of the tv as instructed and installed as directed however the adhesive on the back of the strip will not stick. They stayed up for about 2 days and started to fall. We fix one side and the next falls down a couple of hours or a day later. Emailed NanoLeaf customer service a few days ago and received an automatic reply, so far nothing else. Looks like we are going to have to go buy some kind of double sided tape. Annoying.
That said when the lights are on the tv they look fantastic we were really happy with them.

Reviewed in Canada on November 12, 2023
When it works, it works great! But been experiencing multiple disconnects. Tech support had me disconnect AppleTV; yes I managed to reconnect however while the AppleTV remains disconnected, this device is still experiencing disconnects. So, I’m resetting the controller and going through the process of reconnecting. Struggle with setting up again and use it. At this point I want to return the device and try another brand as I’m stressed.

So, I’m learning, this device works best with 2.4 GHz home connection, as opposed to 5 GHz. My home uses both, so I’m thinking the device is confused (join my club). Apparently, home wifi with 5 GHz radio frequency typically offers faster WiFi speeds at closer range to the gateway modem and less signal interference, as compared to the 2.4 GHz radio frequency which offers greater signal range but less speed.
